Hey gang, wanted to see if maybe the folks here could give me an idea of what this bolt does, as it seems it always has a seepage of oil around it. http://www.buell.com/images/products/motorcycles/lightning/9s/gallery/gallery_5_ enlarge.jpg Right behind the exaust tube, at the base of the 'V' there is a large, Allen head bolt. Ever since I got mine it has seeped oil into the surrounding area. Its never anything major, but I know my old XB9 did not have that problem. I tried looking it up in my service manual but did not find it. Im at work right now so I cant thorougly go threw the service manual to do a better job at finding it. Anybody know what that large bolt does? Is it just a plug of some sorts? Thanks, --Austinrider |

Check this... My XB12R leaked oil from day one also and after several attempts to find it we stubbled upon the problem. One of the starter bolts was stripped out from the factory, not the Buell factory but from the wonderful folks at HD where our engines are assembled. The bolt is threaded into the starter from inside the case so they replaced the starter and I've had absolutely no problems since!! If the same Yahoo built your engine this could be the culprit. |

Gearhead - Thanks! I swung by the dealership yesterday for some BRAG stuff and showed it to the dealer, they said bring it in and they will take care of it. I'm coming up on my 5k checkup here soon so I figured get it taken care of then. --Austinrider |
