It is a tragedy for the family and no doubt for those who knew him. Looking at some of his threads - in answer to Anonymous' question - I think he had the bike barely 3 weeks. |

Wish this upon no one. I wish that young riders/kids listened more but just in and out is all they do with input. To bad all the help some of us offered him on his attitude a few days ago did not sink in. Not being mean, just shows how much listening instead of being bull headed(im guilty also) could have changed his/his families life. |

F$&K F$&K F$&K what a waste of a young life! I was just telling some friends a few weeks back about this kid. His comments scared me, "I just got my bike,I can lane split fast, how do i do a wheelie". From a world away, a few sentences told me he was not mature enough for a bike. Someone should have been looking out for him, although he didn't seem like the type that could be told. Sorry not trying to be self-righteous,We all make mistakes and have our day. I just feel shocked, angry and surprisingly sad about this. RIP Matthew Cook- Im sure you are giving someone a hard time where ever you may be. |

Truly sad and my heart goes out to his friends and family. Decided to do a search of all his postings and found the one where he got a ticket. I bet if that police officer ever sees the news story and connects the dots he will regret not impounding his bike for not having a motorcycle endorsement. Truly sad. |

Year after year after year, I have regretted NOT discouraging a rider from becoming just a bit too eager - only to learn that they've killed themselves. Screw all this make-believe macho bullshit sentiment about "doing what he wanted" TRUST ME - I bet that he DIDN'T want to have a fatal "OH SHIT." I have said it many times on BADWEB and on other riding boards. We WILL be having this discussion more than a few times again. Sad that we've lost a young rider? - ABSOLUTELY! - but mark my words, we WILL be having these discussions again... and knowing this saddens me even more. |

Agreed Slaughter. However, as previously pointed out- I am proud of the BadWed community for how it handled this one: lovingly encouraging the young buck to take it easy and respect the power. Sadly, advice not taken. From his threads: "The lesson learned was...................?" "No more riding like a suicide bomber...but i cant help it sometimes little voices in my head tell me to." "I find myself still speeding LOL!" And irony of ironies... "I have been going lil crazy going fast and between cars and on the dotted line and all but one thing scares me and thats leaning...I feel like im going to dump my bike if I go to far..." May we ALL learn a lesson from Matt- both in learning to respect our bikes and their power, and a lesson in coaching our younger riders to ride safely. Slaughter, I agree with you. We'll have this conversation again. It's a byproduct of the hobby we all love. I know I have stopped on the road side to count my blessings on more than a few occasions where the hand of the Lord intervened in what should have been a horrific crash on my part. I've been extremely blessed that I've only been down 4 times, and only one of those times resulted in serious injury. While I accept the fact that every ride I take could be my last one, it's very sobering to think about the sadness my family would feel if I were killed or seriously injured. But if I didn't ride, and ride the way I wanted to, I don't think I'd be the person they know and love. I am a firm believer in God having a plan for us all. If it's your time to go, it's your time to go, and there is not one person among us who will cheat death. I have read about many people getting killed on motorcycles, and other than one of my MSF students who was killed by a drunk driver, this one hurts the most. I never knew Matt, but I think I understand what he felt when he threw a leg over that bike. And being a parent, I understand how horrific it would be to lose a child. My biggest fear is to outlive my child. |

RIP Matt Our prayers to the family as well. It feels even closer to home just a few hours North here in Fargo! From those of us that have been lucky enough to survive a serious crash like this. I have two things that remind me to keep my urges in check, threads like this and the aching bones with the change in the weather. I would trade all of these threads and obituaries for just aching bones if I could. But we all know that will never happen. I will consider this a reminder to us all to not only check ourselves, but keep trying to help others less mature. |

R.I.P. Matthew Cook I have been talking with my riding buddies about this young man all weekend. We had remembered those we had lost. We had remembered the grace that god had gave most of us. My prayers to Matts family and friends. He made an big impression in a short amount of time. Tomorrow I Ride for 9m9Knight, Wood |

I've got chills reading the obituaries- many of us have signed the guestbook there, and it makes me proud to part of this community. I think it would be cool if more of us took a moment to express ourselves there as we have here. |
