I went and got a Carquest filter and gave him the Bosch #. He gave me a Wix, which is ok but the # is 85394 with the Wix # being 51394...whats the deal??? Is it the right one? Thanks. |

That sounds like the right part # I buy the napa gold filters which are Wix and the napa part # is 1394 for the Buell. |

Yeah, it's the worst 10 minutes you'll ever spend extending the life of your ride. |

OMG it is so horrible! Last time I did it, black fluids were leaking out my engine into a strategically placed bucket. Then I had to twist on some bolts to plug up the holes and put oil back in the bike to replace the leaked fluids. It was horrific, now I got to figure out what the yellow light on the dash and the F error on my odometer mean... |

Its easy! I highly suggest WIX filters! Run some Mobil 1 and a wix filter and you have a recipe for GREAT internal lubrication :-) Which greatly lowers the odds of something going....BANG and then you cry.... |

So are these carquest wix numbers 100 percent the same as buells.... no worries and just wonder the correct part numbers for car quest or napa for that matter? Thanks |

Not trying to start a oil flame war here. Is there that big a difference in the Mobile 1 Auto Formula and the M/C version? I'm running the auto formula in the engine and most likely will run it in the tranny when it's time to change out that oil. Is Auto Formula an issue or is this an mountain/mole hill kind of thing? |

Zane: Mountain / Molehill thing. Here's the deal: If your engine REQUIRES a JASO oil, then use Mobil1 V-Twin oil. If your engine REQUIRES an API "C" oil, then use Mobil1 Extended Performance (their full synthetic brand). So what do Buell's REQUIRE? Answer: API "C" oil. BTW, Mobil1 Vtwin is also API "C", but it's basically designed for modern Japanese engines as they were designed to require JASO oil. Remember the Buell engine is based off of a 20+ year old design. |

Sweet! So my car and my bike require the same oil! Mobil1 Full Synthetic! Add a couple K&N air and oil filters, and I've got some happy (very enjoyable) modes of transportation! |

Mike: unless you drive a mid 60's V8, it will likely be a different vis so while you can share the same brand, you'll likely not be able to share the same cap color... |

If you talk nice to the Carquest guy he might just break out the filter spec book and see what filters will fit for you, you might just find one that is a little longer, or one that is a little heavier duty. M.D. |

I wasn't implying the oil change is bad, or difficult for that matter...hell it took about 40 minutes and that included a thorough once over of the bike and a good cleaning for the airbox and its contents. The dreaded part is this is Buffalo and the weather is turning...so not much more in the form of mo-mo riding...now it's sled time, which is ok with me cuz I love the snow! FWIW I went with Amsoil and the Carquest filter. The Amsoil definitely made the primary smoother and quieter, now we'll have to see what it does for the engine. Thanks for all the input folks. |

The car takes a full jug of 5w20. I know the bike will be heavier. I read somewhere 15w40 or something like that for the bike? |

That sounds like the right part # I buy the napa gold filters which are Wix and the napa part # is 1394 for the Buell. does anyone know the specs for the napa gold filter? Is it the same spec as the wix? the wix filter lists the bypass pressure as 8-11psi. I have a pureone on there now that is 14-18psi. I'm going to assume 8-11psi is correct or close since the wix filter is a direct replacement for the oem. |

Question? - Why doesn't everyone just use a factory Buell oil filter? Is it the price? Or the availability? Trust me, I don't care for paying 10 bucks for a Buell oil filter either, but I figure I'll have less to worry about and it's black (big +). How much are you guys typically paying for a Wix, Napa Gold, etc. Am I missing something here or is it the price issue? |

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 Formulated specifically for four-cycle V-twin engines. Key benefits of Mobil 1® V-Twin 20W-50: * Outstanding resistance to thermal breakdown. * Optimized for hot-running, air-cooled engines. * Enhanced lubrication for peak horsepower. * Protects engines against harmful dirt deposits. * Excellent transmission performance. This is from the Mobil oil web site. From this description it would seem V-twin is perfect for Harley engines. |

For me it is the availability. Closest dealer is 50 or so miles and I can't buy a case at a time, because my wife would think i'm crazy. Napa is everywhere! $7.15 including tax for the napa gold. |

I was told that its best to use a OEM filter rather than another...T/F ? Does it matter? or make much of a difference? |

Wal Mart is the official supplier of the Buell Cheapskate in Chief. Mobil 1 15w50 is about 5 bucks a quart or less if you buy the five quart jugs. I get the one quart bottles just because they are a bit easier for me to handle. The Supertech ST4967 filter is made by Champion, the OEM supplier for Buell, and cost two bucks. Waste not, want not, my brothers.

Wix filter is best; its gloss black can with gold accent-stripe matches my bike & its Amber wheel color... Oh, you mean how does it perform as filter? Never mind : ) I bought Wix for speed to access (first went to local H-D, naively thinking that's where I'd find parts for my 'new' Buell). |
