After doing the wiring mod which allows the low beam to stay on during high beam use the low beam has gone out. Not sure if this is a related deal though. Put about 5k miles on since the mod. Was wondering what the best HID kit might be and will I need to switch the connection wiring back to the stock config? thanks buellers! |

http://www.xenonlink.com I've bought three sets from them. 1 for my XB12Ss(HB7) 1 for my wife's Ducati Monster(HB4 Bi-Xenon) 1 for my '65 Mustang(HB4 Bi-Xenon installation in progress) All are the 5000k color temp. Low price and fast shipping. Have worked flawlessly for me. Nels (Message edited by forerunner on October 27, 2008) |

I wouldn't think you'd need to switch back the mod to stock ( assuming your mod is the one utilizing the European 'parking light' hot wire - not the jumper in the handlebar switch unit). This way the low beam HID will stay on full time regardless of the handlebar switch setting. However to play it safe, you might want to use that 'parking light' hot lead only as the 'on' input to the new HID, and still make home runs back to the battery for your + and - power leads. |

After further review, it is the high beam that has gone out.. The mod was a simple one I found (here maybe?)..just swapped around a couple of wires at the wiring junction under the flyscreen for the headlights. Thanks for the xenon link. Would the slimline ballasts fit easier/better behind the flyscreen? thanks! |

One of the reasons I went with xenonlink was the ballast and ignitor are a single unit which made the install easier for me(less things to mount, cables, etc). YMMV I tried fitting the ballast behind the flyscreen on my XB but couldn't get it to fit w/o relocating/replacing the horn. I ended up mounting it inside the airbox. Nels |

I went with the one from the big bad and dirty board: vvme.com I wouldn't say it's the "best" kit... but it's the least expensive. And I've installed it on two cars now and they work just fine. I've got the kit half installed in my XB now... just waiting on some final components to wire it up. The ballast and ignitor are in a single unit as well. With relocating the horn (still under the flyscreen) I was able to fit both ballasts under the flyscreen of my XB-S |

anybody mounted a set on a 'bolt yet? I got the setup from vvme.com as well, but have yet to mount the ballasts. Not sure where to mount them under the R fairing... James |

There's juuuuust enough room to velcro in a pair of slim ballasts in the R fairing http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/360869.html?1209473397 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/321363.html?1215460956 Ignore the turn signals at the beginning of the thread. Installed the HID kit today. Sorta like night and day... The slimline ballasts proved their worth as they mounted on the backside of the flyscreen via velcro. BIG difference..worth every penny. Was able to retain the earlier mod which allows the low beam to stay on all the time. |

i followed a few threads from this one into the KV. I just got two HID set ups for hi and low beams on my Firebolt from xenonlink.com. I've read the warnings about not running both of them off of the low beam line but it is not entirely clear to me. The kits that I bought from xenonlink.com say "plug and play". Reading Midknyte's associated posts, he says not to run the HID's off the low beam line. So, it's not plug and play? Hmmmm... So, do I have to 1. run both HID's off of the battery; each with a fuse and a relay? 2. hook one up to the stock wiring and one from the battery with a fuse and a relay? 3. just hook up both lights into the existing factory wiring? (I'm thinking YIKES!) If I do have to get relays and run fuses, what amperage fuses and what relays? They didn't come with the kits. Where should I get 'em? my brain hurts... TIA |

I picked up a cheapo kit from Ebay, dropped about $100 on it. I'm betting I'm the only firebolt owner thats ever had people walk up to them at a gas station and remark how bright the headlight is. I work a parts counter and I have people come in that saw my bike in the lot, hunt me down and ask about my "really bright headlight" It's funny to me how I'm so well known in town for it. I'll put up a pic later |

That is the way you want to go if possible. Prevents any issues with not getting enough juice to the lights, and no potential to melt connectors My HID kit had an option for $20 to come with a pre made setup, its worth it. |

ok... so someone brought up that.... anybody mounted a set on a 'bolt yet and then there was some picture with with extra hardware bolted to the faring.... I still have no hands-down clue what are the best lights for a 12R? And would any modd for xenon's or any other high-end bulb have to have some type of hardware attached to it? vortec.... sounda good.... (Message edited by ochoa0042 on November 05, 2008) |

i believe the hardware you speak of is the ballast that comes with the HID lights. Each light will have one. |

The 3000k are YELLOW to Orange. My yellow in the picture above is a 3500K You want to stay around 6000K to 6500K for white. My 8500K are blue white |

The motorcycle kit from Texon has a lead that feeds from the headlight socket to the relay. In essence, the headlight runs the relay to switch the headlight on. You would then run a direct feed from the battery to run both headlights. I have separate leads for each headlight so that they are completely independent of one another. The Low beam is switched off of the accessory plug while the high beam is switched off of the headlight harness. Both are run with a relay so that the only draw coming off of the stock harness is the current necessary to close the relay switch. I have both power harnesses running to the ballasts in the airbox with the igniters in the front flyscreen. |

the 3000k golden yellow would look nice on my bike, would it be a bad idea to replace both hi/low beams with it.... or NO they're bright a heck go right ahead? really right now i dont have shit to spend of, but all my questions here or there are for future references (Message edited by ochoa0042 on November 05, 2008) |
