I like the look of the first one. It's got a real beefy badass look to it. I've done a lot of looking around at pre-built mufflers. To use as a starting point. I found the max dimensions that will fit in the factory mounts are 3-1/2" - 4" high by a max of 7" wide. Length is a tough call. It all depends on what inlet and outlet you intend to fab. But I would say that 15" would fit good. One of the only oval mufflers i've found that will fit is made by magnaflow. The vortex mufflers internals look real cool. But the only problem is that they don't make them in a case size that would fit under a buell. The biggest problem i've found is the damn kickstand being in the way. The kickstand limits the muffler to a maximum 7" width. | ||

Someone help me! I have an addiction. I can't stop making stuff. I feel completely lost unless i'm in the garage cutting, hammering, welding.....etc. I couldn't help myself today. Has anybody tried carbon fiber? I have thought about cutting off the front and rear of the muffler, and making an oval tube out of carbon to replace the center portion of the muffler. Then pop rivet the metal front and rear sections to the carbon tube. I see other mufflers with a carbon body, so the heat can't be a big problem. Now all I need is a place to work. | ||

I would just make a carbon fiber sleeve that would go over the outside of the muffler. Then just pop rivet it to the muffler. That way it looks like a carbon fiber muffler but keeps the strength of the steel can. Plus it leaves the steel can inside so you can be able to weld stuff inside it. | ||

Nice Jim! How does it sound? Properly laid carbon fiber would be much stronger than steel, and much much lighter. Problem is, you and I can not properly lay carbon fiber! At least not without some tools, training and expensive materials... That one Glitch showed is sweet! Most Jap bike carbon cans have a steel perforated core (like a cherry bomb muffler) that is welded to the ends. The perforated core is wrapped with insulation, then the carbon fiber is laid over the outside and riveted to the end caps. This gives you he inner structure and weldability of steel, with the looks, cool touch, and light weight of carbon fiber. Very tunable also- simple as inserting different size discs into the opening to increase/decrease backpressure. HHmmmmm.... | ||

What's the point of your "baffles"? They don't really cancel any sound, and they just interrupt flow... Do some research on Helmholtz resonator-designed mufflers. Neat stuff. | ||

Thanks. I'm going to try and get it on the bike tonight. I wanted to do something that didn't need repacking/maintenance. Plus I'm kind of dig'n the stealth/stock look. That carbon Drummer is real nice. I've never messed with carbon fiber. I know it's strong as hell though. I do want to try mess'n with some fiberglass this winter.  Maybe once I learn how to do decent fiberglass work i'll give carbon a try. Does carbon have to be vacuum formed? | ||

I've done 'glass work in my car audio install days- doing custom dash pieces, custom door pieces and custom sub boxes and such. It's easy as pie. For carbon fiber to cure properly and for the resin to properly permeate the fiber it does need to be vacuum formed. Then it needs to cure in a fairly accurately temperature controlled oven. Ok here it is. The sound quality sucks. It definetly has a deep thumping tone to it. Sounds real nice in person. I can't wait to see how it runs out on the road. Damn rain!!!! Thanks Hogs. I've never heard a D&D in person so I can't compare. I hope it performs good. If not I'll just have to keep tweaking it till it does. Just like the old school drag racers did it. Build it, test it, tweak it, test it, tweak it....until it performed 100%. I just wish the damn rain would stop. I wanna get on and go try it out.  | ||

Jeff i'm thinking I might make a couple for friends.  It stopped raining for a little bit today. So I was able to get the bike out for a nice ride down the highway to relearn the ecm. Then it was shakedown time! I love this thing. It pulls real good through the whole rpm range. No midrange dip like I felt with the Jardine. It pulled the front wheel with ease when shifting from first to second at 5,000 rpm. The bike also seemed to have less vibration. Nice and smooth cruisin'n the back roads at 3,000 rpm. It sounds real sweet when on the throttle. When at a steady cruise it quiets down a little. There is no resonance or droaning in my helmet like I had with my Latus. With every muffler i've had besides stock (Latus, Jardine, imitation Drummer) i've HAD to ride with earplugs. Even with the earplugs I could only stand about a 1 hour ride on the highway. With this pipe and earplugs I could ride all day on the highway. It's not gonna stop raining till Thursday. So i'll try to get a video of a take off and drive by so everyone can get an idea of what it really sounds like. I'd also like to give a huge thanx's to Xopti (Mike). Ya rock dude. tatoo. i see you cant help the addition. guess it my fault. but you like my little design? it works well.. i just dont want issues with the corporate guys so i gave away my tricks i found on the dyno. old tricks sometimes needs just a tweek and a slight different location. keep up the work. fill me in on how its working on the bike. if you need i can REMAP THE BASE FILE TO THE PIPE SINCE ITS LIKE MY DESIGN I DID A YEAR AGO. It is true. It was influenced by xopti's design. I have an extra muffler in the garage that is going to be getting "the treatment" next. This time it will be based completely off my own idea. I've been refining version #3 with the right side front outlet. This one will be a 100% pure Tattooed Designs pipe. I just hope it performs as good on the bike as it does on paper.
