Don't know if this is a dumb question or not. But I have seen some nice Buell's that have all the badges off, like the tank ones and the firebolt ones on the front fairing and the tail. But then I have seen some that are removed and the out line of the stickers are still there. Is this going to happen to me or the ones that look like that just not worked enough to remove the out line? I just don't want to do any type of painting but I want them removed. Thanks |

How long have they been on there? The longer you wait, and the more time its exposed to the weather, it is more likely to leave a trace. |

Just paint it! It's really quite easy and there are plenty of online how to's and you can get good results from a rattle can. (Message edited by moosestang on October 29, 2008) |

I just bought it. It's a 06 XB12R that has 4200 miles on it. A little more now lol. The bike was always kept in a garage so the only sunlight that was beating on it was when it was being rode. I'm not the best painter in the world. I know how to do everthing, just when I paint it looks like shit. So if I need to I will take it to a painter and have them do it. |

Well the good news is, even if you totally screw it up, a brand new cover is about $200, and you can get one in just about any color and with or without decals |

Thats good news. I will just try it. I used Goo-Gone before in a friends bumper and that did really good. Maybe that will be the ticket |

You can cut the glue out from under them with a piece of fishing line or heavy thread(a little heat from a hair dryer will help too), then buff the panel with some rubbing compound. The sun fade isn't the bigger issue. Usually under the decals the panel will still be 'new'. It hasn't been washed, rubbed, scratched, polished etc. You can even hand rub with a cloth and compound, then use a plastics cleaner/wax. You will actually be making the exposed part smoother and cleaner while at the same time putting micro scratches in the 'new' part to make them match up better, then the cleaner/wax will fill the micro scratches. I wouldn't paint it unless it were pretty bad or I was looking to do something different with it. |

Try Novus plastic care product. There are two abrasive liquids and one polish. Work magic on the XB body panels. I used them to remove surface scratches and the tell tale ring around old Buell stickers. www.novuspolish.com/ |

Thanks guys for your fast responses. I will try the compound trick first. I love this forum. The other bueller forums that I go to aren't very popular. This one has helped alot. Thanks again |

You don't need any goo gone. I just heated them up with a heat gun and pulled them off, but leaving it in the sun should do the trick. Most of the time the raised portion separated from the glue portion, but it was easy to peel off. Just use one of the stickers to pick up any glue that didn't come off. I bought a beat up cover on ebay (solid color) and i'm going to paint it a nice metallic blue to match my car. My other cover is painted gray, but it's the clear plastic and both front bolt holes cracked! I've since fixed it by gluing a large plastic washer to the bottom and gluing the broken piece to that, but I got the used one just in case that didn't work. I didn't use any special primer or paint, duplicolor for everything. So far it's held up great. |

Heat them up with a hair dryer and just peel them off. Next spray wd40 on the remaining adhesive(make sure the cover is real clean to begin with to avoid scratches) and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then rub the glue off with a rag. It may take a few applications of the wd but it works great. Follow all of that with a wash, dry and application of novus or wax. G |

Does any of you have any pics of your home done paint jobs? Primer, paint, clear coat. You'll need to wet sand the clear coat with 2,000 grit, then use a polish to make it really shiny. I used 600 grit on the plastic and wet sanded the first coat of primer with 600 grit, then sprayed another coat f primer. You'll want to remove the gas tank trim ring and either not paint it or paint it separate, then reinstall. I used emblem tape to stick it back on.

When I removed my badges, I used a hair dryer to get them good and warm, then peeled them up. I did it totally by hand the first time, but I recommend having a pair of pliers handy. Get the corners lifted with your thumbnail, then use the pliers to grip it and peel it back. It'll save some hide on your fingers (that glue it freakin' sticky, and requires some major tugging!). I did this technique the second time I removed badges, and I had them all off within 10 minutes. WD40 and a rag knocks off the glue layer that might stay behind. Good luck!
