Son's Firebolt will not run when he places in gear - runs ok at idol, stalls only when trying to get in any gear. 2003 XB9R |

It sounds like the kickstand switch to me! Check the wires and the switch itself... oh, and make sure he has the kickstand up! |

2003 bikes had them. when mine went out i just spliced the wires together to bypass the switch. |

All the time. I often leave it down if I am just moving it across the parking lot. |

I just wanna say a HUGE thank you to yall! I was "stranded" in a not very nice part of Baltimore City last night, people staring me down. I couldnt figure out for the life of me why the friggin bike wouldn't go in gear. I leave the kickstand down when I climb on because its hard enough getting on since I'm 5'3, I know at least the side with the stand on it won't fall over. My dad posted this last night for me while I was stuck in the hood. Thanks again you guys! |

After reading that, it may be that your clutch switch is bad. The circuit should kill the engine if the kickstand is down, you put the bike in gear AND you release the clutch. If the bike was dying with the kickstand down and the clutch pulled in, you've got a bad clutch switch. IIRC, it's on the handlebar control and won't be hard to replace. |

Bitch about the switch, but I prefer that over the new kickstand design |
