Anyone know how far you can go uprating the headlamp globes before melting the housing and frying wires and switches.
Or have any neat ways of improving the bright end?
Its pretty piss poor with the standard which I think is about 55/60 watts.
Gotta get more light before I hit a kangaroo, I reckon that might hurt.........Alot ;)

Yeah - they're kinda cute but those claws will rip you apart - and don't get me started on those big bloody tails... You forgot to mention emus too. I'm just glad we don't have wombats here in WA - must be like riding into a concrete block.
Mate - I picked up a couple of 55w globes on ebay that are tinted blue - they give a brighter white light - but not by much. Aesthetically they are heaps better though.

downunder, try the PIAA brand H7 extreme white.they work very well. only 55watts, no stress on the tiny little headlamp wiring. also easy to modify headlite switch to leave lo beam on while running hi beam. the PIAA are real bright, they are NOT blue, and they do the job. kinda expensive though. good luck, dean

Can't ya just put one of those big grill guards like they use on truck to filter out skippy if ya bump into one?

Seriously... that would have to be like hitting a deer here in the USA. One of the local guys hit a deer a couple of months ago at about 80 mph on his XB9R... snapped the front end off the bike... he and the XB slid hundreds of feet... the deer did a flat spin off into a ditch... and went to deer heaven... the rider got up... brushed himself off... after shredding his riding gear... and getting a small bit of road rash! Walked away pretty much unmarked... lucky he survived!

I have heard of all the skippy confrontations on the roads... do they just stand there with the "deer in the headlights look"? or do they hop around eliminating any chance of evasive action???

They have the nasty habit of standing watching from the side of the road - moments before hopping in your way. And they don't hop in a straight line either - they zigzag.

"...easy to modify headlite switch to leave lo beam on while running hi beam..."

What? The XB9R low beam stays on all the time, it's not switchable on US bikes. Are you talking about 9R or 9S?

On my Aus Spec S the low goes off when you flick up to high beam.
If you want both at once the left index finger must depress and hold little button at rear of the switchblock. It only works as long as my finger stays there.

downunda: if you pull apart the left switch housing you will find the hi beam switch to have 3 exposed wires. solder a jumper between the blue and yellow wires. this leaves the low beam ON and then the switch becomes a HI beam switch. in this way you can have both lamps illuminated on HI, so you can see much better in dark. then put some 55 watt PIAA extreme white H7 bulbs in there, aim them right, and you will be real happy. ride safe, dean

Cool... I thought I had read a post that someone had tried those and they didn't have a long life span... Of course you can always find someone who doesn't like or use anything... Let us know if you have any problems... I'm thinking I might change the bulbs out next spring sometime myself... Good Luck with the weather, it's supposed to be around 80 tomorrow here but with a real strong wind, guess I'll just take my mountain bike in the trees...
