I just checked my gas mileage for the first time on my XB12. It came in at 38 mpg. I had a 89 sportster, it would get 45 mpg. Is this about right. What should I expect?

You have the same bike I have. I regularly hit 48-53 mpg, but I do a LOT of 60-75mph cruising. If you're in town and a bit throttle heavy, it'll definitely be lower than that.

I've got an '05 XB12R with an OPS pipe on it with an '07 airbox and K&N filter. I believe that all those have helped in my gas mileage. I don't know if it helps also, but for what it's worth, I've got a catch can on the bike too. With 27k miles on it, I got 56 mpg riding through the twisties and averaging 70-80 on the straights. One thing that really kills my mpg is stop go traffic and making a lot of stops at restaurants, rest areas, and what not and then starting up the bike again. A buddy of mine has an '07 and he has about 3k on it. His mileage has been getting better since he got the bike with 800 miles. How many miles do you have on it?

I have 5300 miles and a pipe, K&N, and a programmable ECM. I do a lot of in town riding and it seems like every time that I have to stop, when I take off the front wheel comes off the ground in first and second gear. That may be a topic for a later decision. I have only had the bike for two weeks, so there is a lot of excitement when I go fast and brake hard. It is hard to get use to shifting before 10K RPM, so I bump the rev limiter a little more frequent than I like. What an awesome bike, I am very pleased!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2005 XB12Scg with 15,000 miles.I averaged 52 mpg all the time. From what I've read on here, a bike doesn't get that good of mileage until it is broken in.
I bought mine with 5,700 miles on it and I have never seen less than 50 mpg.I must admit though I do ride like an old man.My bike has the race chip,Race muffler and air filter. Peace and grease.........

Mine was in the mid 40s when new. By the time it had 3-4 k miles on it I was getting around 52-53 average.

I get consistent 40mpg, riding it like an old man or having fun. I ride in stop and go traffic everyday and I let my bike idle for a couple minutes every morning to warm up.

I believe my problem to be the traffic and the warm ups since I have tried riding my bike at every possible way to try and improve gas mileage, consistent 40mpg on a 12 with 5600 miles.

Just got back from a 100 mile ride and got 49 mpg. Averaged about 70 mph, not to bad for a good time.
