Got around to checking my kickstand bolt again yesterday, and sure enough, it was loose enough to turn by hand. I finally decided enough was enough, and I jacked the rear up and pulled the whole assembly out. Degreased the whole mess, checked the bolt for an signs of flexing, and packed enough red Loctite in that bad boy to make sure it wouldn't loosen up ever again! I'm leaving it up on the stand for 24 hours because my tube doesn't say how long it needs to cure. It's a piddly thing to accomplish, but I'm proud I finally did something about it!

Maybe this will save me the cost of converting to the updated C-clip version.

Swordsman,

It may help but it won't stop that bolt from sheering

Er, it shouldn't shear unless the weight falls on the threads instead of the main shaft, no? I can't see that shaft shearing...?

I suggest doing the upgraded it as well. Mine just recently broke and luckily my bike didnt fall over in the process. The "new and improved" pivot bolt is definitely more solid as Bads1 said. It may seem like a waste of money, but it is worth every penny knowing your bike isnt going to tip over which in turn would cost you even more to repair.

I showed up for work one day and mine was gone.

90% of my work commute is on the highway, I still wonder if someone was behind me when it fell off.................

hmmm...can anyone tell me what year the kit is for and when did the factory fix the stock bikes? I have a 2008 XB12Ss and not sure exactly how to check for this type of recall/issue (newbie that I am).

I am not sure the exact years, but if you have the kickstand that has the threaded pivot bolt, then you have the discontinued kickstand assembly. The upgraded kit consists of the actual kickstand arm, the pivot bolt, and an e-clip. The rest of the hardware you can use from your previous kickstand. It is approximately 60 bucks for the kit.

Was there any type of recall to cover the cost of the new kit?

red loctite doesn't need to 'cure'....the pressure and no air is what causes it to 'cure'.

No recall on the old kit.

I sheared 2 of the old style pivot bolts. I never sit on my bike making the kickstand hold me up.

$60 is cheap insurance. You could mess up a bunch more than that, especially if you have custom paint.

Old style pivot bolt (temp repaired by me-bolt in bottom,)

Does anyone have a P/N for just the new pivot pin and clip?

I was doing the 40K service on my 04' 12R last night and checked the pivot bolt like I always do when the bike is serviced. It was broken! I did a quick repair with drilling out the 5/16" thread and tapping it to 3/8" and used a shoulder bolt. It works, but the new pin would be better still.

You can't buy the pin any longer. The kit is the only thing left.

Well that stinks having to spend $60+ for a stand and pin when all you need is the pin and a drill bit.

I guess the other way to look at it is the pin and clip are $60 and they throw the stand in for free.

My shoulder bolt looks better all the time.
