Has anyone had their REAR brake lever linkage come loose? I was riding with some people the other day and i heard an embarrassing rattle... Upon further inspection of the foot lever, the pin seems to rattle around in the (clevis?). I tried to tighten the nut and it was very tight to begin with, the brake seems to work fine but could something have come unglued inside the cylinder? Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated. It's an 07'XB12Ss w/4500 miles or so... |

Bump, cant figure out this rattle, does the threaded rod usually move side/side and up/down?

If it has any play in it (as you described), it's probably stripped. Can't see how that can really happen but there you go. The adjusting rod should thread into the clevis. The adjuster is kind of a weird piece to begin with. It seems to "float" at the bottom of the brake cylinder. Loosening the lower nut allows for adjustment. The upper nut is part of the adjusting rod and part of it is inside the rubber boot. Turning it moves it in the clevis and the pedal adjusts up or down. When adjusted the lower nut locks the setting in place. (I'm wishing it was a separate piece so that I could buy it separate and trim it to adjust the pedal lower. Can't be done as far as I know. Probably will get a new pedal to modify.) Check for clearance. When the brake pedal is pressed all the way down, it should not contact the bottom of the adjusting rod. |

Are you talking about the pin in the "clevis" or the hex nuts? If you're talking about the pin with the cotter pin in back, I don't think anything is "wrong" other than, like you said, its annoying. The pin in my '04 12S has been loose from day one and I've had no problems... I might use the back brake one time a month but its always been there when I needed it. If you're talking about the nuts, that can probably be fixed with good 'ol blue loctite. Cheers. |

Mine seems to make noise while riding... i thought that there should have been a bushing or something in there so it doesnt make a rattle... i'm going to try to come up with something... it's driving me nuts... |

If the brake lever rattling is bothering you, get a louder exhaust... |

I've put in nylon washer (like the ones on the bodywork bolts) before . . . |
