Cop wouldn't stop talking about me losing my driving permit and doing jail time. anyone else had this sort of ticket? |

Tough luck, Gonen60. Most of us probably have been way over the limit more than a few times. Now you will probably learn to appreciate lawyers. Good luck, Prof |

Really depends on what sort of mindset and local intensive enforcement policy is in effect between the ticket and the court date. You might be able to cut a deal in the pre-trial portion, or not, that may depend somewhat on what gender you are based on personal experience in which all the women got class/traffic school and no points and all us guys got point reductions and no traffic school as an option. It may also depend on if it was on radar and how current the radar calibration is and how recent the officer's radar training was and a whole slew of other factors such as road conditions and the fact that a Peregrin Falcon had just swooped down at full speed and snagged a soda can that a squirrel ducked behind and the radar possibly picked up a bounce from the falcon-endowed soda can. Of course if you can make that story stick you don't need my advice. Hang in there and keep your wits about you, and learn as much as you can from the court clerks before the trial date. Sometimes a delay is a good thing. And keep us all posted. |

My Lawyer is one of the best in the area, and it's going to cost. I am hoping and praying to get it reduced to just speeding. The road was bone straight, and not a car in site. I was going up over a pretty high bridge, and slowing...Dumb luck, He was coming up the other side. We passed right at the top. He told me, he could tow my bike, and lock me up, right then and there. But He cut me a break. He says they arrest sport bike riders in packs all the time. He called my bike a "Ninja Crotch rocket"... |

Viros, Your only hope is to get a lawyer. Without a lawyer you don't stand a chance. Call the local lawyer's association in that area and find a lawyer that specializes in traffic cases. Paul in MI |

For starters be thankful you don't live in Arizona. We have some of the highest insurance rates in the country. You wouldn't be able to afford the insurance premiums after you get out of jail. Even more so, be thankful he didn't throw in a Aggressive Driving ticket if it applied, you'd really be screwed then. Arizona Reckless driving; classification; license; surrender A. A person who drives a vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. B. A person convicted of reckless driving is guilty of a class 2 misdemeanor. C. In addition, the judge may require the surrender to a police officer of any driver license of the convicted person, shall report the conviction to the department and may order the driving privileges of the person to be suspended for a period of not more than ninety days. On receipt of the abstract of conviction and order, the department shall suspend the driving privilege of the person for the period of time ordered by the judge. D. If a person who is convicted of a violation of this section has been previously convicted of a violation of this section, section 13-1102 or section 13-1103, subsection A, paragraph 1, in the driving of a vehicle, or section 28-708, 28-1381, 28-1382 or 28-1383 within a period of twenty-four months: 1. The person is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor. 2. The person is not eligible for probation, pardon, suspension of sentence or release on any basis until the person has served not less than twenty days in jail. 3. The judge may require the surrender to a police officer of any driver license of the convicted person and shall immediately forward the abstract of conviction to the department. 4. On receipt of the abstract of conviction, the department shall revoke the driving privilege of the person. E. The dates of the commission of the offense are the determining factor in applying subsection D of this section. A second or subsequent violation for which a conviction occurs as provided in this section does not include a conviction for an offense arising out of the same series of acts. F. On pronouncement of a jail sentence under this section, the court may provide in the sentence that if the defendant is employed or attending school and can continue employment or school the defendant may continue the employment or school for not more than twelve hours per day nor more than five days per week and shall spend the remaining days or parts of days in jail until the sentence is served. The defendant shall be allowed out of jail only long enough to complete the defendant's actual hours of employment or school. Good luck, -JW:>

Well considering how you bragged about locking up the rear tire & going around corners, etc. I think the ticket might cause you to slow down a bit & think about your riding. Maybe that cop just saved your life? And driving permit? Dont you have a regular motorcycle license or endorsment? |

Char, do a search for "Stealth 430". Don't know if it's water tight but it was the best I could find and has jamming capability. I'm strongly considering adding one for my ride next year. |

Charlotte, If the judge buys the defense it doesn't really matter. ps, how was Wyoming? Here's a radar detector discussion, there was a more recent one though someplace on the site here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=4062&post=90852#POST9 0852

With more & more police switching over to laser, good luck finding a decent one to beat it. |

Dyna, the Stealth 430 is supposed to even counter laser. It is/was the absolute best I could find when I went looking after my speeding ticket a couple months ago. |

I have read of a few that claim to counter, but when I see the tests on mags like MCN the laser ones are rather inadequate. Laser is an instant on & off type deal & very precise. Very very hard to pick up. If someone has developed one thats effective, great! |

Laser (instant on/off) was coming into widespread use, as a hand held unit, in 1997. Prior to that, use of laser was pretty much restricted to mounted units in stationary vehicles. I was involved in one of the first tests.....three times in a single day in Ohio while enroute from Topeka, KS to Pocono. One of the funnier "Buell: On The Road" stories. Remind me to tell you someday, the ending is much funnier than the story. |

I can't remember exactly how it works but they say they can even defeat laser. It's not like you can pass a squad car at 100mph like you're invisible but supposedly it does something to the give you some reaction time before they can get a lock on the vehicle. As small as a motorcycle is there should be some advantage already. All I can say is that their explanation seemed reasonable when I read about it on a couple websites. To know for sure you'd need a cooperatibe LEO to help test it out. |

From what I have read with laser its just like shooting a gun. The gun has a sight on it & once he has you in the crosshairs pulls the trigger & BAM. Instant reading. really nothing to lock onto. But I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt if they say it works. Not with my hard earned $$$ tho I will let someone else buy it & try it out first. |

From what I hear of the laser "jammers" they actually send out a fairly refracted laser beam at all times. I would imagine that it would only work in one direction. As an Aside, the Russians (crash is Kosovo that Clinton didn't order bombed) and Chinese (sold by Clinton basically...) probably have the tech for our stealth paint from the 117... Anyone know a well to do Russian or Chinese? It would probably help at least a little... |

I got tagged for speeding, and by law, it's reckless driving..it's a stupid charge. I wasn't endangering anyone or riding beyond my ability... |

I have been stopped a few times 45 in a 30 etc but have never even been fined let alone endorsed. Luck of the draw maybe but straight empty road? Givus a break ocifer! Cheers p.s. When I got clocked at 86 in a 55 zone the trooper dropped it to 84mph so I wouldn't have a mandatory court date. I thought that was pretty decent of him under the circumstances, though a warning would have been even more generous. I can't complain, for all the years I've been driving I've had very few tickets. |

in VA, 20 mph or more, over the speed limit is reckless driving.. |

Let me guess.... Blackwater road were it meets Princess Anne..... That is not a backroad... lots of truck traffic (dump trucks) and they tend to run over the limit...hence VA BCHs finest stake that road out ALL the time.... Life stinks sometimes... anyway, typically if you hire an attorney, the judge takes sympathy on you because you've essentially have already paid a fine by hiring the leagel eagle.... I know I've been there before...(Glochester -RT 17).... got it reduced to speeding 0-5MPH, no fine, pay court costs and the laywer of course.... good luck... kk//kef |

I got tagged for speeding, and by law, it's reckless driving..it's a stupid charge. I wasn't endangering anyone or riding beyond my ability... You bragged about the entire going around corners with the rear tire locked up. A few of us warned you of the possible dangers yet you laughed it off. Now a cop busts your ass for going 88 in a 55 up bridge while you were slowing down..So just how fast were you going? And you werent endangering anyones life? How do you know? The road was bone straight, and not a car in site. I was going up over a pretty high bridge, and slowing...Dumb luck, He was coming up the other side. We passed right at the top. Road was bone straight but up a hill so obviously you couldnt see what was on the other side or you would have seen the cop. How did you know there wasnt a broken down truck in your lane just over that hill or something similar? Too many people like to use that "I wasnt endangering anyone or riding over my limits" line, right after they plow into a car & kill some innocent person. And then you want to cry about getting a ticket? Cop wouldn't stop talking about me losing my driving permit and doing jail time. anyone else had this sort of ticket? You got off lucky. Maybe he should have towed the bike, thrown you in jail & then see what kinda fit you throw.

Last time I got tagged was in August in the middle of the city for doing 96kph in a 50kph zone. I spoke very nice to the cop and he wrote me up for 10kph over which means no points and the minimum fine. Then there was Quebec on the way back from the 20th Anniversary where ai got clocked for 147kph in a 100kph zone and he let me go without any ticket and told me to keep it around 120kph. Sometimes you are lucky other times you are not. |
