I went to install a Buell Race muffler on my 07 XB12R today. The right side outlet is hitting the bottom of the idler pulley. I left the aluminum rear mount and just took off the straps for the swap. Is there something I'm missing? Did buell up the pulley size at some point? |

Did buell up the pulley size at some point? Yep you got the original race pipe there. After 03 they change the belt design, and had to change the idle pulley and the drive pulleys, that led to the changing of the race can's outlet. |

I take it that there are different cans then. Didn't know that. Are the internals the same? I was just going to hammer/brass drift modify? |

Poppinsexz, I`m 99 percent thinking the internals are the same... Your " hammer/brass drift modify " Can`t see why that won`t work..Be Gentle... |

I think others have ground a notch in the can as well. |

Hogs, How did you mount the filter? I was thinking about zip tying it to the bar that runs beside the engine. |

First time I have heard of this issue. I did not doubt you(or the other posters above) I just wanted a better understanding. Thanks. BTW I did a quick search and found this, it might help in some way. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/347888.html?1206886614 |

Speedfreaks101, Thanks, I didn't even think about the search function, I guess the frustration level was a little high at that point. A small dent did the trick. I'll finish in the morning and take her out for a test ride. |

Keep an eye on the dent. as the muffler settles you may hit again. I used small shims between the muffler and mount, along with a LARGE dent. Still have the dented muffler on the Uly! |

Thanks New12r and thanks to all. Took her for a test spin all seems well. I like the sound. I checked the clearance with it hot and I have plenty of room, at least 1/8 in. |

Wait a second!!! I have a 2003 XB9S in the garage (wifes). I did the complete belt conversion on it the year before last. So it has the same set up as your 12. I also have the same race kit muffler. That is the Ceramic polished muffler that didn't come out till 2004. Which btw the 2004 belt set up is the same as the present just the belt differ as far as make and material. Soooooo my muffler doesn't hit. Did someone prior to you have a 2003 race muffler polishing ceramic coated?? Because the 2003 unit was flat silver/grey. |

This seems to be a hit and miss afair and I can only think somewhere early on the design was changed prior to 04. I have a genuine 04 xb9r (NOT an 03 sold as 04) you can easily tell by the white wheels and belt. Anyway the first race kit I was sent was the "new" version with the nice shiney muffler abd GB231 Race ECM with the centre pin for the exhaust valve. Fitted not a problem. My muffler suffered an internal failure and for some dumbarse reason they had to take all the kit off and completely replace just the muffler. Anyway they replaced with a gray silver muffler and CB060 ECM that was the original kit part #. Easily fitted and no belt clearance either????? Would be really interested in the story behind this one. |

Bads1, This was a flat silver/grey muffler. It was not the shiny version that I have seen around. I took some polish to it and shined it up a bit, so it may look shiny, but it is nowhere near the shine of the others. I got it off Ebay-supposedly the previous owner had it on an 03 9s. |
