Anyone know what a belt looks like when its "about to go"? I have an '04 Goodyear belt with 22k on the clock. I seem to think the 20-25k range was when it needed to be replaced with the latest version. Mine "appears" to be in good condition on the outside... other internal factors may be the reason for the mileage expiration? Don't wanna buy a new belt if I don't have to. Pictures welcome... Thanks. | ||

Only belt I broke was on my Sporty at 43,000 miles. Appeared fine until it broke. Was gonna change it at 50,000. IIRC the 04 belts are scheduled to be replaced at 25,000 miles along with the idler pulley. | ||

My 2004 xb12s belt looks like new with 23,000 miles on it. Do not know if I should replace it now or wait and just keep an eye on it. Heard when they are getting close to breakage, they stretch or get loose. Hate to have it break a long way from home so might just replace it at 25,000 like it says in the manual. New improved belt that is on the 2009 models is $175. | ||

From what I hear, the new belt is unbelievably hard to install... a buddy of mine said when I replace mine, I'll swear that I've done something wrong because it won't appear to be long enough... sez he got it to go on finally. | ||

From what I hear, the new belt is unbelievably hard to install FWIW: I've got the new version on my Buell and Sporty ( yeah, it fits!) I don't recall the new belt being any more difficult to install than the original versions, and I've had the back wheel off of both several times. | ||

Same boat as you 41, mine looks fine with around 23k. If it ain't broke don't fix it is my theory. I'm sure when I am on a long ride one day in the middle of nowhere with no cell service it will snap. (knocking on wood right this second) |
