Just to let everyone know. Buell refused to help me out in any way. So no longer will I ever buy a Buell or Harley... Biker Bobs in Troy, MI DID NOTHING!!! They now have my bike for over 3 months now and nothing has happened. They didn't even try to help me out!!! Its a bummer how they just blow off the younger generation of riders!!! I bet if I was a 40yr old, they would have fixed it without an issue!!! I have already Purchased my Victory, which is an AWESOME Bike By the way!!! I will forever stay an American rider but never again will I purchase a Buell or Harley!!! And for my Old XB9r I am thinking about just breaking it apart and creating one of those Mutant Choppers just so there is one less Buell on the Road!!! anyways Still pretty upset about the whole thing. See you guys around!!!

So you let one shit dealer ruin your entire experience and future with HD/Buell? Wow, If I did that I wouldn't own anything. LOL

Honestly, it's not because you're young. It's because you decided to buy a Buell. Most of the loser techs they have working at just about every dealership don't know much about Buell other than it looks different.

Its too bad you're leaving the herd man. If you're truely serious about this move, I'd ask that you try to sell it outright or part it out so folks here can use those parts to help fix their problem child.

You can make some coin that will aid you in finding another bike.

Turning 40 this next month. I am having one hell of a garage sale, low prices, so low all ya gotta do is show up.

The motorcycles are off limits. The rest of the stuff, goes to a good home free for the pick up. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose. Ok the guns stay too, they will help you to keep your hands off my bikes.

PS I might be needing a front XB fork, wheel, rotor, brake handle bar assembly for a project....

Don't get too excited about your Victory until after you've experienced their brand of service.

Victory dealers are few and far between and their product is usually sold with a whole myriad of other products which doesn't provide much confidence that the techs are trained any better than the HD/Buell techs.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience but thrilled to learn that Buell bases their service level on age.

Having turned 55 last week I'm going to get showered and stand by the door waiting for all the free crud to arrive.

JB2 has a Victory and has been very happy with it. Based on what he has reported, it's a great bike. So, as you age, you'll grow happier and happier.

You have a 5 year old bike and you want the wheel bearings replaced for free? If it was not a recall, then they are under no obligation to do anything.

Like someone else said, you could have tried another dealer as some are more sympathetic than others, but of course you have all ready threw your tantrum and made up your mind.

You are not alone in your dislike for the beast at times.

Mine seems to have a little Chucky Doll inside that grabs me by the nuts at times and gives them a good twist.

Cannot bring myself to sell it 'cos when it is running right it is like nothing I have ever ridden.

I know that eventually all will be well and to be honest if it was vibration and trouble free I would have gotten bored with it by now.

I guess if you want zero thought, little maintenance turn key riding then it's Japanese time.

I will keep mine because their really is nothing quite like it around.

It really sucks that HD/Buell lets this kind of crap happen. I'd be pretty pissed myself, and would probably have an attorney by now if they had my bike for three months!!

That's just the way 99% of harley dealers are! I've only found one so far where the majority of the employees actually preferred buells! And it was also the most welcoming atmosphere I've ever experienced in a harley dealer(houma, la). The dealer in Jackson jerked me around over a backordered part instead of going through another dealer and I threw my little tantrum too and pulled my bike out of their shop and got it myself in 3 days as opposed to the month they kept me waiting. That's just how it is with all bike dealers everywhere cuz they tend to be the only shops around so they know they have you and they don't care and you've just gotta butch up and deal!

Ejkokko, too bad about your bike. I do not understand the whole problem but it sounds like a simple fix with a couple of tools and beers. I assume you don't have a cadre of other Buell riders in your area to help you out. If you do I would ask them for help.

Dealerships have to be treated, as in any relationship, with a give and take attitude. If you don't like your relationship after you have put forth a good effort then move on to another. I do not know the exact problem or the particulars of what happened but I always find a factual letter to Buell, without emotion, gets a lot more attention than posting on the Internet.

Good luck on your Victory. They are fine bikes however, they are not Buells.

exactly! you've just gotta find the dealer that you like and you're comfortable dealing with, like any other service industry...unfortunately though w/ harley/buell dealers they are few and far between, at least in the south.

i still dont under stand what all this "said they will pay for the wheel bearing but not the Wheel, Axle, Belt, Swing Arm, Belt Guards, many ex. or any of the LABOR!!!"

has to do with replacing the wheel bearings. but hey, whatever floats your boat.

just sounds to me like they were willing to cover the cost of the bearings(or actually buell probably was.) i see no reason why they need to replace anything else just because you want to upgrade bearings

Sounds to me like the lack of an explanation could be due to a guilty conscience. Rode it tooo long that way maybe?

I just received a nice letter in the mail from Buell informing me that they want to replace my headlights. Dutifully, I called the dealer to make arrangements for it. No one is going to come to my house and knock on my door to make sure it happens.

I take great care to make sure all the recalls get done on all my vehicles.

Well the dealer should fix a recall, but if he neglected to bring it in within a timely manner and the bearings failed causing other problems, then he's SOL. I don't know what the law considers a timely manner, but I think he's way past it.

The OP never stated WHY the dealer should replace any of those parts, only that they failed to help him.

Personally I think what happened was that the bearings were never replaced, then the rear wheel bearing failed. When it did, it caused the destruction of the parts he listed. The dealer, realizing that a known faulty bearing was the culprit of the destruction, refused to replace the damaged parts, since Buell would not pay for them. Hence, the cost of the replacement would have either had to come from the dealer or from the owner. If you were the dealer, would you pay for parts that were destroyed because the owner failed to get the known faulty bearings replaced? I wouldn't. Why would I? Would you? I didn't think so.

The guy said nothing to make me believe that Buell or the dealer is to blame for this. The story was sketchy at best. There's alot more to the story I bet, but he isn't relating it because it would make it obvious the dealer isn't at fault. If I'm wrong, I welcome him to challenge me. Otherwise, I hope he has fun riding his Victory.

It's funny because the wheel bearings weren't even a recall. What a douche.

Even if it was they tend to expire. Just like the headlight service bulletin. It's is going to expire in 2 years time from the date it was issued. I bet he'd be the one to go 5 years down the road and get all pissy about it because they wouldn't do it for free. Good riddance I say.

i guess its not quite that well known then since i just looked it up in the knowledge vault to find it is only an extended service policy and NOT a product recall.

i work in an automotive dealership and deal with warranty situations for the majority of my day and have a pretty good idea of what happened in this situation. being that it is not a recall, BMC has no obligations to any related failures caused by the bearings.

could the dealer have been able to get the related parts covered?
-its possible but not very likely. a lot of this would depend on that particular dealerships relation to the manufacturer and then even more so of the customers relation to that dealer. if you are a genuine good customer then the dealer may be willing to stretch their neck out in order to try to help you since it is a known problem, however if you are a first time visitor or just plain angry and mean in dealing with them.....well then there honestly isnt any reason for them to go out of their way for you.

from what i have seen and experienced in cases of extended coverage policies is that sometimes the best we can offer is still only some kind of warranty split with the customer to help lower their cost.

my personal opinion is that the op was lucky to have even been offered the bearings to be replaced given his attitude on the situation.

Sorry, you're right I should not have used the word "recall". All I can say is I knew about the wheel bearings before I even bought my 2003 XB9R. This guy didn't do his homework and was probably throwing a tantrum with the dealer about it, therefore he got this result.

yeah that was exactly my point, i used to call everything a recall when i first started but after a while you learn that there is a big difference between a recall, a technical service bulletin, and an extended policy bulletin. there can even be a recall that will only be valid till the end of the factory warranty period (of course those ones are never safety related and are pretty rare)
