Well, I ordered parts to fix the low-side boo-boo and everything is in stock except the handlebars. Is this normal for Buell? I can understand a 10 year old ECM being on back order, but something like a handlebar? Paul in MI |

Any part at any moment could go on backorder. Not just at Buell, Harley, BMW, but this can stretch to Burger King, Wal-Mart, etc..... There are alot more factors than just Buell having one sitting around. Did you hear one about the ship that sank, definately cause for backorder(can't remember when this was or what was being carried at the time, maybee someone else has some stories relating to this). Oh, and the ship didnt relate to Buell. Lots of factors. Craig

Paul: You should have them promptly. Many dealers do not stock handlebars; but they should be a "ship w/in 24" from Buell. Let me know if you have any problems; Buell has one of their best folks at the helm of the parts cart now and the woes of yesteryear are gone. |

True... I required a new rear rotor on my XB9S and the part was there at the door and installed by my dealer (Southside HD/Buell - VA BCH, VA) in less than 24 hours from the initial call-in... kk//kef |

Court, Thank you for the generous offer. I ordered the parts 7 days ago and was just informed (yesterday) by the dealer that the part was out of stock at the factory and on back order. Since I'm in no condition to ride I can wait awhile. It just brought back nightmares of my Ducati ownership experience back in the early 90's. It was a 6 month wait for anything. thanks again, Paul in MI |

Thanks everyone. It took 10 days, but the dealer finally called today and they have the bars in stock. What is weird is that whenever I order Harley parts from my dealer, they arrive right away. Paul in MI

What is weird is that whenever I order Harley parts from my dealer, they arrive right away. Not really weird. There are a lot more Harleys out there than Buells and sales still favor the mother company. Hopefully this will change someday soon...

After having to replace handlebars in the past, they look very familiar to the ones you can purchase at a BMX bike shop. Wonder if there are any differences, hell its not like the stock handlebars on the XBxS are all that sturdy --AustinRider |

Well, I finally picked up the handlebars today. I had a chance to talk to someone at the dealership and their opinion is that the parts dept. at the dealership screwed up and blamed Buell. This makes sense since some other parts of my order were messed up. I remember asking the parts guy over the telephone, "you're writing this all down, right?" to which he replied "yeah, yeah, don't worry..." Paul in MI

Warning: Do not let your girlfriend work on your bike. Well, I wanted Cheryl (girlfriend) to feel involved with motorcycles, and since my XB9S is just a big brother to her 883 Sportster, I try to include her when I work on the bikes. Since I was replacing the handlebar, I pulled the throttle cables apart to lube them. What I didn't realize is that I have to take the airbox off to set free-play on the throttle cables. As some of you may know, removing the airbox means separating the airbox from the velocity stack/snorkel. The velocity stack has a double lip which seals to the base of the airbox. Well, taking it off is pretty easy, but putting it on requires a bit of patience. So, seeing that the double lip will go on easier with the proper tool and some lube, I turn around and walk back to my tool box, leaving Cheryl and the velocity stack alone. I hear an "uh-oh" and turn around to find that Cheryl has pulled the velocity stack out of its mounting. The velocity stack is secured by two small, captive nuts into which thread two screws. Well, she had managed to pull one of the captive nuts out of the velocity stack leaving the nut still attached to the screw and mounting bracket. So I remove the remaining screw and show her how they are supposed to work. I then go back to tape up the now exposed intake when she exclaims, "I got the other nut out too!". New velocity stack: $15.00 Teaching girlfriend how to work on bikes: Priceless. Paul in MI |

It has to be bad dealerships. I emailed Brian, at Tilley's, last Saturday. I gave him a vague description of what I needed (the M2 flyscreen mounts) and he just called me to tell me their in and waiting on me to come and get 'em. I feel for you guys/gals that are dealing with losers. As for me and my tribe we will use BuckinFubba -- sorry, couldn't resist. Greg |

Hmmm the dealer personel admited that someone screwed up and that makes em a loser dealership. WOW kinda harsh. Thanks Daddy |

Spidey, I was overly harsh and I attribute it to years of excuses when it comes to anything Buell. You're correct and if you've got a person in the ordering chain that 'goofed' it doesn't mean the dealership is a loser it just means they made a mistake. Greg |

It's all good. The shame is that every dealership doesn't have a Spidey, BuckinFubba, Daves (and the Iowa Mafia crew.) Later. Greg |

I just ordered a race kit for my '03 XB9S and was told that it was on back order indefinitely?!? This was at Williams HD in Jersey. I asked if they could even guess at how long it might be and was told "no". I'm just wondering what "indefinitely" really means. Can any of you factory guys help me out here? Steve |
