I've been looking at those off and on as well. It says they're "weather resistant" with "waterproof zippers". Does that translate as "pretty darn watertight", or no? I can't see what the point of waterproof zippers would be if the rest wasn't. Anyone else tried them in wet conditions? ~SM | ||

I have the Buell saddle bags on my S. They leak like a sieve. If I put valuables inside, I put them in a baggy. After heavy rains, I've had water puddled up on the bottoms. | ||

I just got the cortech sport saddle bags and sport tail bag (although that one didn't come in just yet). Used them on my trip to mount washington and I couldn't be happier with them. | ||

Lanretsr, good bags, but most definitely not waterproof (I have the same ones, and needing separate rain covers annoys me). 'Course, waterproof wasn't in the original poster's question, so that part's moot anyway! ~SM | ||

I had the Buell expandable side and top bag for my City-X. I used them a lot. They held up well, but like they said, they leak through the material bad. I lined them with a kitchen garbage bag at all times. I couldn't figure why they would make them without water proofing them.  | ||

Yeah I have them and the top trunk bag. No way near water resistant. I pack my stuff in the plastic grocery bags. I did have room for a 4 day trip with the 3 bags, no tank bag. | ||

Used a set on my recent 4k mi trip, and like them. Easy on and off, stay in place, good capacity. Having been tricked before, I didn't even worry about water resistance; I packed everything in garbage /grocery bags before I left. Now about rain and my Sidi boots........ | ||

John, Check out the ventura bike pack. I have it on my xb9sx. It is a bolt-on and allows you to pick the bags you need. The large bag holds a fullface helmet. Google Ventura bike pack or pack rack. -roadrash1 | ||

I have the saddlebags. Good stuff, never rode in rain tho. I bought a set of Cortech expandable bags because I need more space. I'll sell my Buell bags for 1/2 price if anyone is interested ($80..plus a lil shipping $$). ***sold*** (Message edited by andymnelson on August 27, 2008) | ||

I looked at the factory saddle bags, and came to the same conclusion as everyone else. Not weather resistant at all. I ended up with a nice set of Ortliebs. I can't say enough good things about them. They are waterproof (partially submersible), and more importantly dust proof. If I needed saddle bags on a regular basis I wouldn't hesitate to have hard cases. I looked into a set of Tourtech metal cases. They were willing to match a set to my halliburton luggage. The quote I got included a custom mounting kit, ~$1800... I passed. I have a set of the factory bags, and was a little disappointed with the size. Luckily, I have a set of Oxfords from my last bike (GSX1400), and they go on quite well. Much bigger , and way water proof! I think the factory bags would be good for a day trip, or an overnighter, but they don't accommodate for a decent camp out trip. Perhaps the tail bag, and maybe a tank bag, might suffice, but then you'd be better off on a Uly... | ||

I have the factory bags with a tail bag and tank bag on my XB9R.. They work VERY well and are easy to remove. I have enough room with ALL the bags that I am using.... They are priced pretty well. Matt | ||

I have the small pods http://buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/product.as p?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=4&CategoryID=4&ProductID =2225 for my Firebolt. They are pretty similar to your first link. They have been great but the zippers have given out after 12 months (24,000 km). The weight rating is around 3lbs in each. I've probably had up to 10 too often, and in the end this has taken it's toll. The size capacity is surprisingly large. I rarely need any other luggage. I have a full set of wet weathers in one pod and it doesn't fill it. I can fit two loaves of bread in the other without mutilating the loaves. Expand it out and I can fit milk as well. I've ordered the new '09 version. They seem like the zips will be stronger. | ||

Does anyone have the buell saddle bags on a lighting, with a fender eliminator kit? I have an old set of bags that I got a while bag for another bike. But surprisingly they kinda work. I dont think they are waterproof. I will have to see what brand they are at lunch | ||

If you have an integrated tailight without separate turn signals, then don't get the Buell bags- they have notches for the turns and look ridiculous if you don't have em! I'll try to post a pic later today for you. | ||

Here's a couple of pics of my Buell bags. i really like the look of the bags, and the fact that they are "Buell" branded and made to fit our bikes. I didn't have the time to actually fit them- the straps are supposed to go under the seat, I just laid them over the top in the approximate position that they sit. If you want better pics I can actually attach them tonight. Note the cut outs for lights at the rear- pretty cool if you still have the lights! Feel free to ask if you want more pics or info. Oh yeah, sorry about the crappy cameraphone pics!   | ||

Its a Tank in the way that the EM-50 from Stripes is an Assualt Vehicle  Getting a new set of Mudders, oil change, new belt, brakes and set of plugs. There will be MUD to be had when she is ready. | ||

What about spraying em down with some campdry? I don't think they'll be dunkable, but I would assume that would protect em from a decent rain storm. . . . I love the look/size, I really need them to be able to handle serious rain though : / | ||

put a small kayak drybag on the inside and call it good, Otherwise the set up I have is WATERPROOF. I have a full winter of rain to prove it. |
