Chasing after an electrical gremlin... Low beam would sometimes not work. Now does not work at all. High beam ok. 03 9R Low beam ground ok - I can power the lamp off the high beam line. Sidestand switch seams ok - the fuel pump cycles as it should. I took apart the high beam switch and the solder connections all look good. I check the fuses. All look good. Swapped out the relays with a new one and each other. Going to start to tear things apart and work my way backwards and thought I'd post up for any similar experiences and solutions... Intermittent failure: the worst kind. Continuity checks and ground checks don't help because that could be time that it is working. You're probably looking for an open wire or a loose connection. You didn't mention following through on the connectors under the fairing. You're looking for a four wire connector that's kind of buried under there. Try and figure when it fails. Was it on a turn or after a series of bumps? Turn it on and wiggle the bars and dive the forks up and down. See if you can make it fail on purpose then you can track it easier. Good luck. |

Yep, a tear-down and look-see under the fairing was next. Found the culprit. And I am to blame I figure for running my HID ballast straight off the low line. I got off lucky. The connector on the short extension harness is melted. Volt meter shows that there is still power on the main harness. So, to those who admonished me and warned to to use an auxillary harness to the battery for my HID, eh - yer right. To those who are still running it off the main harness - ya better change it!
