Ok, I know I need to try on a helmet because every brands sizes are different But I can't remember if it was on this site or something I just googled. It was a big color coded chart with almost every manufacture of helmets, (brands up and down, and sizes left to right) and it had horizontal bars to represent the range of each size for every brand. Basically it was really good to compare if you knew what size you were in one brand you could figure out (to a degree) what you size should be in another brand. Anyone else see this chart? |

I know it's not what you were specifically looking for, but this should give you a decent cross reference between the sizes of different brands. http://www.helmetoutletusa.com/index.cgi?Submit_Bu tton=Helmet_Sizing_Chart |

Besides just size, the shape varies between manufacturers and models. There's a good article here with a discussion of different size/shape heads about half-way down: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/mot orcycle-helmet-faq.htm |

I don't know what chart you're talking about, but you need to measure around your head with a tailors tape measure if you want to know what size helmet you need. Like you said, a large from one manufacture may not be the same size as a large from another. Luckily almost all of them have their own size chart with head circumference listed. This site has a list of helmets showing what shape they are, round, oval, nuetral, etc. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/mot orcycle-helmet-weights.htm I just ordered a shark rsi for my oval head. |

Unless you've already found the brand and model of helmet that fits your skull it's pointless to buy them online. Get out of the house and go to your motorcycle store, pay the extra $20 and make a new pal at the MC store. Heck, while you're there a cute girl will be looking at some dirt bikes and you strike up a conversation on how you always wanted to ride in the dirt. You find out that she's never ridden one either but has always wanted to. So you go out on a limb and say, "hey, I'm the same way, but I'm ready to make a commitment on buying one if you are!". So together you compare notes and are able to negotiate a sweet deal from the sales person cause you're buying two of them. You both sign up for a Dirt Bike safety course and enjoy a great time together out on the dirt roads. You stop off at the local coffee shop and have a light dinner but insist on sharing a fresh apple pie. You let her know that you had a great time and you'd like to ask her to watch a movie with you. You select the latest comedy movie and you have a wonderful time joking about it on the ride home. The next morning you call her up and say, "that was the most fun I've had in a long time -- would you be interested in going for walk with me and my bulldog "Billy" this afternoon at the local park?" There, you now met a wonderful girl who has a passion for bikes all because you went to a store to try on a helmet... |

Hmm... I know I would get slapped for suggesting I want to "ride in the dirt" |

I've heard the Cycle World motorcycle shows can be a great place to buy a helmet. The factory reps for Aria and Shoei know their stuff on "fitting" your head and will probably do a lot better job than the dude in the local MC store. |

I'm all for dealing local (no Buell dealers in the state, so I use a jap bike place that I can trust), but I can't justify the difference in price. I use them for tire mounting and things like gloves, etc, but when it comes to helmets I go into the local store to try them on for fit. Once I find the one I want, I go online to buy. For over $80 savings, I think its worth it. If it was $20 or less, I would buy local, but I can't justify over $80. |

I remember the chart you're referring to, I've seen it in catalogs before - either Dennis Kirk or Chapparrel Sports. Here's a link that has at least a few of them: http://psndealer.com/dealersite/images/brocktoncyc le/amok_helmets_size_chart.htm |
