my 05 xb12r is falling apart on me. I cant get it to start. with the battery charged it lights up and does all the prestart stuff but when I try to start it the fuse box on the left side of the instrument panel clicks and the whole bike looses power then comes back on as if I just put the key in and switched to the on position. I need my bike and cannot afford to take it to a local dealership. so if any on can walk me through what might be wrong and how I might fix it I would greatly apprecate it. |

sounds messy. First make sure battery is good and charged. Your solenoid is not clicking, your relay is. Solenoid needs to click to initiate starter. Manual says if relay clicks (fuses on the right, relays on the left) "Test for voltage at solenoid relay terminal on starter. Is 12V present when starter button is pressed?" Something to check: when I was looking for a wire problem for me 9R speedo issue, I notice that the green wire underneath the relay box was chaffed. I put some black tape on it. This is the wire that goes to the solenoid. And it's your cheapest fix. |

From my experiance with cars, its a weak battery. There is enough power there to run the light stuff, but as soon as you ask for a lot of amps for cranking, there just not there anymore, SO it all cuts out. You should be able to take your battery to a sears or auto parts store and have them test it. My guess is its bad. |

Might be the battery cables aren't tight enough. |

I had the relay doing the same thing on my old 03 9R and swapped it out with another relay in the fuse box to test and it started right up.Give this a try because it sounds exactly like what happened to mine. |
