I have an '08 XB12S that I've had for 1 month, it has about 915 miles. I dropped it off over a week ago for the clutch cable/bracket issue, the 1k service and the idle will double when you drop into gear. The dealer has been giving me the run around on the idle issue saying that they've never come across this problem before. Has anyone ever heard of this problem with a brand new bike? Is it possible that the Buell dealer doesn't know what they're doing? | ||

so when you put it gear it jumps up to 2000 rpm? Well here is my thought. I guess that your TPS (throttle position sensor) is not set properly. I'm thinking that the idle screw is in too far, so as soon as you get into gear its enough of a fueling change that the engine jumps up to 2k. So basically I'm saying do a TPS reset, if this doesn't fix the issue than I'd have them reflash the ECM, cause it sounds a little effed up. I just looked at your profile and in there you say it jumps from 1150 to 1900. 1150 is way to high an idle. Turn the idle screw CCW (counter clock wise) until you lower it down to 1000-1050 RPM. That will probably take care of the issue. OH, and make sure the bike is warm when you do it. (Message edited by Mnbueller on August 15, 2008) | ||

The '08's no longer have a idle adjustment screw. It's all controlled by the ECM. My '08 XB12R's idle would do the same thing, but I don't think it was as high of a jump in idle as yours. My bike had the ECM flashed with the new update, and a TPS reset back in May. One of those fixed my high idle in gear. Edit; One good thing about the 08's, you can do your own TPS resets. You don't need any tools to do it. Do a search of the board, the procedure has been posted several times. I don't have my service manual at work so I can't tell you for sure.
