All these posts about getting less than 40 mpg on the 08's and all the new flashes from HD to fix it is making me wonder why there is no flashes for my 07 12s which can't get over 38 mpg. Every time I've been in for service I ask if there is any flashes for it and they say no. All my riding is in town, but no matter how I ride it the bike will not do better than 38 mpg. Everybody said it will get better as the bike breaks in, but I'm crossing the 5000 mile mark and nothing has improved. I did a non stop ride through a whole tank last month, at a consistent 80-85 mph and it got 50 mpg. Thats the best its ever done! what gives? |

Know what? If you're getting 50 mpg at a steady 80-85 mph, then I'd say the problem in city traffic isn't the bike, but the way you're riding it. I'll bet if you slow it down on the highway 20 mph you'll see close to 60 mpg. In city traffic, keep the engine in the "sweet spot." Don't lug it, or over-rev it. Anticipate stops (don't accelerate all the way to the traffic light or Stop sign) so you don't have to slam on the brakes, and don't drop the hammer every time to start moving again. I'll bet you'll see your mileage improve considerably. |

My 'o7 XB12 never got less than 50 around in town..on tankfuls at 75 mph steady I'd get 55. that was with race kit. My '05 XB12 will get 58 on highway at constant 75mph |

The 38 mpg is going easy around town, shifting at 3500-4000. When I have fun on it I get around 33 mpg. I am willing to sacrifice some gas for having fun or trying to get somewhere in a hurry. You can tell me it's my own fault for riding hard but it sounds like I am not getting nearly as good mileage as everyone else who claims they "ride it hard". |

Sooooo, has anybody heard of a flash for an 07? Theres so much talk of flashes for 08's, seem like there would be something for 07. Will the flash for the 08 work for the 07? |

I don't believe there is any difference between the '06 and '07 ECM. The '08 uses an entirely new system (similar to the 1125R) which is why it was having teething problems. Typical for the first year of any new technology, I'm afraid. By the way, I've got an '06. A friend with an '06 Uly generally gets better mileage than I do with similar riding technique, but nothing like the difference between what I see and the owners of the '08 bikes have been seeing. I get mid forties around town, and mid fifties on the highway. Combined, I'd say I average between 49 - 52 mpg all told. My friend usually gets closer to 52 - 55 mpg all around. I don't sweat it. It's close enough. |

The 07 is a bit different, not much, to adjust for the higher flow airbox. I never heard anything about a flash for a 07, but its possible. The only way the dealer will know is when they connect the Digital Tech. Tell them the check engine light popped on but then went away, you want to make sure its all good. That way when they plug it in they can check for updates. |

The million dollar question is - will ECMSpy work on your bike after the dealer flashes it with the latest flash? |

Save the '07 reflash Eprom to a safe place. Then tinker as you like with the maps. (Message edited by teeps on August 17, 2008) |
