What is involved in replacing the front wheel bearings? Are any special tools needed? |

You need a blind bearing puller, available from Harbor Freight or similar for ~$30. You can tap the new bearings into place using a hammer with a socket or length of PVC pipe. |

If you are going to buy a bearing puller tool, please buy a bearing install tool as well. This way you know the bearings go in straight and with a nice smooth preasure as opposed to banging it in |

+1 on not banging in the bearings. You can make a very nice bearing installation tool from a foot of threaded rod, about 1/2" diameter if I recall, two large washers and two nuts. Not as good as a pro model, but does the job for the home mechanic. |

Thanks. I am trying to decide if I should take this on DIY or just take it to a dealer. I had the bearings replaced under a recall & have about 25k on them, they are starting to feel rough. |

And if you choose to do them yourself, put the bearings in a zip lock bag and put them in the freezer the night before. Then take a heat gun or hair dryer (torches I don't like, but can also be used) and heat the hub. Makes install much easier. |
