While riding down the freeway today doing 60mph the bike turned off for a split second and cut the engine. Then the power came right back on like you just turned the ignition key. I did notice it was hot outside and the fan had been running. The bike started right back up after I had pulled it over to the side of the road I have a 04 xb12r. Anyone know anything about why it did this? Maybe this is a indicator for something going bad? |

Sounds like your Bank Angle Sensor (BAS) is bad. It's a switch designed to shut off the engine if the bike goes down. Cycling the ignition switch or the kill switch resets it. There were problems with these on the early Ulys. It's a pretty cheap part and is easy to replace. Not sure exactly where it's located on your R; somewhere in the tail section. |

It could also be a loose positive wire on the battery terminal. thats what happened to me it would start and the lights would go dim then it would shut down and start right back up. just tighten up the battery and the bas is in the front above the headlights I think |

i just recently had the same problem. i would be riding mine and it would just shut off. the lights would stay on. it was just like i had hit my kill switch. i ended up going thru all of my wiring. i took apart every connection i could find and put dielectric grease on ever thing. look for any chafed wires. i ended up fixing it but i have no idea what i did...lol |

'05 Firebolt manual has the BAS above the headlights under the fairing. Section 4.35, Fuel Systems page 4-103. |

BAS failure leading to a shut off is a very common problem with the blast. I don't know if they share parts. I bypassed the BAS and kickstand switch on my blast. I have not seen this issue on my XB. |

I had the same issue on my 02 X1. I cleaned and sensor and no issues since. j |

I had the exact same problem. I bypassed the relay for the safety and kill switches and it has worked ever since. One day I'll take the time to figure out which one it was. Jumper the load sides of the relay plug together take it for a ride and see if the problem goes away. At least that way you'll isolate the problem or rule out some options. |

i had similar symptoms... driving ~80 mph, then it just cut out and had to coast to the shoulder of the freeway. i pushed the bike ~1.5 miles and then finally solved the problem at a Shell station. turns out, if you wait too long to refuel, this can happen... |

Oh yea, I forgot to say, when mine was cutting out I could clutch it and it would run fine as long as it hadn't completely died. |

Sounds like clutch cut off switch, perhaps....I had a Suzuki that did that. It was a car.... |

Meaning to ask this for a while, seems as good a place as any. Can an xb be bump started? (like run along side and jump on...) |

...you could bump start a tuber, the compression ratios were the same. |

YES you can bump-start an XB, I have bump started both the 9 and 12. I suggest doing it in second gear... it is easier. |
