Parking light is out but brake light works. Any suggestions for the best replacement: HarLee bulb, 1157 bulb, 2057 bulb, 2357 bulb, 1157 LED bulb. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. | ||

I played with those LED bulb replacements... they are great when you are right on axis with them, but are hard to see off axis, especially without a clear enclosure. I switched back to a bulb. | ||

You definately need a clear lens. Yes some HD shops carry em. Most indy shops do. | ||

clear lens and get the biggest LED you can fit, I had the regular 1157 LED bulb, not bright enough so I got the 1 1/4" and its much brighter. some cutting and regluing required for it to fit.. bulb-http://www.customdynamics.com/ lens-http://www.claussstudios.com/ | ||

I tried an LED 1157 taillight. Waterproof, vibration-proof and will last 100,000 hours. Plain old bulb is brighter, I switched back. If you go the LED direction, I would recommend getting WHITE LED's and stick with the original lens. If you get RED LED's, a clear lens is a must IMHO. | ||

Patrick, there are several different manufacturers of LED bulbs & yes some of them suck & arent very bright. But get one from a good company & the things are super bright. | ||

As you can see from this table, I have listed the bulbs roughly in order from dimmest to brightest. For example, comparing the 2057 that comes in the stock Impala taillight with an 1157 replacement, you can see that they are essentially the same bulb, except the 1157 would be 50% brighter on the low (parking light) filament. I have gone the next step and installed 2357 bulbs in my taillights, backup lights, and cornering lights, which are 50% brighter on the low filament (parking lights) and also 25% brighter on the high filament as well. This makes the brake lights, turn signals and cornering lights that much brighter. There is a slight tradeoff in bulb life, but 400 hours is the average life of a headlight bulb anyway, and brake lights and turn signals are not on continuously anyway. Dyna: I tried the LED and the plain 1157, one after another in a dark garage. The run and brake light was brighter than the red LED behind a red lens by far. The LED was still dimmer than the plain bulb without a lens cover. I've tried 2 different brands of LED's, but I have yet to shell out the $50+ bucks for the Super-White LED, which may do the trick. Love the LED's, but bottom is visibility=safety. | ||

I installed the 2357 LL (long lasting) and it is much brighter than stock and with the LL is supposed to last longer than the base 2357 | ||

I went to the local Metric Bike shop and they had the "Rotating and Flashing" 1157 LED replacement lamp for $49.99+tax... Needless to say I said to the sales clerk, "hey that seems a little steep, can you maybe knock a little off"... "I see these on the Internet for about $32.00".... Anyway, they guy says "nope, not a thing I can do for you".... So I came home and did a google search and found it here 147,V-MOD.com got one coming via UPS total + shipping was $25.54.... Talk about a profit margin for the metric shop.... I like immediate gratification, but not @ that price... kk//kef |
