Anyone know anything about the Ohlin Rear Shock the GrandStandDesigns has on their web page for the XBs.

Local Shock Specialist know nothing about a Ohlin for the XB Uly family.

Thank You

I have one of these shocks on my XB12SR.

It is an excellent shock, although a bit expensive.

In addition to its excellent shock absorption qualities, the part offers the following features:

1. Wide range of springs offered by Ohlins. The first spring change was free when I got one.
2. The ride height is independently adjustable.
3. The pre-load is remotely adjustable without tools.
4. The nitrogen reservoir is extra large.( This can be a problem as well as it will not fit in an S tail, and must be remotely mounted. Not sure about an R tail on a Firebolt.)

I do not know if they would fit a Uly however.

Another excellent shock that is a bit less expensive is the Penske, which has the advantage of being user serviceable.

GJ:

Could we ask you to measure the overall length of your shock?

We are thinking that a shorter (Ss or STT) shock would lower the Uly just enough to be comfortable on the gravel/mud certain to be encountered in Alaska.

Thanks for the input and assistance.

It is not too easy to get a measurement on this unit, as it has an adjustable length, and is under some static sag.

In addition, I don't see how I can measure it since it is currently installed, and is a very tight fit.

May I suggest that you call Jerry Wohlgemuth at Ohlins.
He is their motorcycle specialist. His number is:828-692-4525x1

Alternatively, a good parts guy like Paul at Gainesville, or Tripp at Precision HD, should know how the standard and Uly Shocks differ. Both are sponsors.

Other sponsors who are knowledgeable in the suspension area are Matt at Trojan, and Al at American Sport Bike.

I wish I could just go out and measure it for you, but in this case it just ain't that easy.

hope that helps.

If you want to be able to set the shock to your liking, get the Ohlin's I have one on my race bike. Set at the standard XB shock length, there is more adjustment to make it longer that shorter, which means it should work out well on a Uly.
