After reading several threads of air box mods, I decided this morning I would add holes to my inner air box. I added (10) 3/4" holes in random locations. Afterwards, I went to start the bike and it had to turn over several times before starting...that never happened before. Once it did start, it barely idled @ 500 rpm. I got out the service manual and it said it should idle at 1050 +/- 50 rpm so I adjusted the idle screw to get it back up to 1000 rpm. Is this something anyone else experienced? Its on a XB9R with a XB12R air box if that matters. |

You've got to ride it a bit to let the bike "learn" it's getting more air. 3500rpm or better for a minute or two. |

^~~what he said. Go get on the freeway and cruise at like 65mph for a little while. You'll likely have to readjust your idle again when you get back. Ride long enough that everything's nice and warm. |

Thanks!! Now that ya'll mentioned that, I remember reading that somewhere. I shouldn't be so paranoid and let the bike do it's thing, uh? Apparently, the bike is smarter than me.Only had the bike for 3 weeks and trying to learn a lot in this period of time. Thanks again!! |

Did you notice any performance difference in the bike when you added the holes in the inner air box??? |

To be honest, I didnt have much riding time on it before the mod to compare it to. My opinion though, it definitely has more throttle response. I am please with the outcome. |
