I see a lot of talk about ECM spy and hear a little about race ecm's. *Do you need a race ecm to use ecm spy? *Where do you buy ecm spy? *Can you use it on more than one bike or is it vin locked? Any links to some good info would be great. A search on this site leaves piles of info from people who know what they are talking about, but to someone who doesn't have it, most of it sounds like jibberish. |

You don't need a race ecm with ecm spy. ecm spy lets you remap stock or race ecm. It can be used on multiple bikes. No vin lock. Race ecm was very popular before ecm spy hit the scene because it was really the only option back then. The race ecm is still popular with people like me who havn't the slightest clue as to how to reprogram the ecm I can't remember the web address where one can obtain the ecm spy program. A search should do the trick. It is free but you have to make or buy a cable with which to hook up a pc to the bike. There's a PDA version but it seems the cable is hard to come by if you can't make your own. |

It's pretty much greek to me as well. What I do know is no you don't need a race ecm. Your basically remapping your stock. ECM Spy is a free software you can get online. The cable came be made for about $40 bucks or bought anywhere between $50-$60 that I've seen. Maybe someone with a little more knowledge can chime in. And Metal beat me to it.. Look up www.ecmspy.com for a free download and go to www.batts.com for a cable it's all you need. Don't forget you will never have to pay the dealer for a tps reset, which usually cost $50.00 to $100.00 depending of where you take your bike. Also check the tutoring on how to do it while you are downloading the free program and it's pretty easy, however, if you have any issues you can email them and for a small fee he(Mike) can design a program base on what you have and want out of your bike. |

Sounds too good to be true. I think Im going to have to try it. I found the ecmspy link on google but the site is confusing and like I said earlier it reads like jibberish. I am going to download the software and see if that clears anything up for me. The batts link does not work. I still need to figure out how to get a cable. I found one on ebay I am going to bid on. If that doesnt work out I need to figure out how to get the plug that connects to the bike so I can make one. |

If I'm not mistaken someone here was making a bunch of them. Try the classifieds, I think that's were I saw it. Try to find someone in your area to meet up with that understands it better. |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/373667.html?1215463136 That is turning out to be a pretty good thread with some info on how to get better front cyl numbers. http://www.deutschconnector.com/products/buell_interface_cable.html That is the only link you need. Mouser no longer sells the cable you need to make the assembly. I'm sure there are other sources out there but I don't have the time to look for them. DLP Design originally made the cable. Mouser just sold them. Look on the DLP Design website for more sources. If you are hell bent on making the cable, batts racing sells the deutsch connector needed. Part # DT06-4S-Assy And no you can't just use any old USB cable. You need one to convert the TTL232 signal the bike puts out to usb Edit: Ok, so I was trolling the mouser website and I cam across Part# 895-TTL-232R I believe you can use that one. It's 20 bucks. http://www.mouser.com/catalog/634/33.pdf It's J in column of pictures. (Message edited by mr2shim on July 07, 2008) |

On e-bay there are quite a few floating around and are ending up costing about $60. I bought mine "pay now" for $65, and the guy sent me the ecmspy drivers and program. Now I just need to haul the computer out to the garage and plug and play. A couple of the sellers on e-bay are making up the cables pretty regularly, so if you miss out on one, there will be more. |
