Just wondering if anyone has ever opened up a race can and taken pics of the internals. I've done a search on here and can't seem to find a definitive answer as to what the internals look like. If anyone has pics could you please post or pm me with them. |

Are the internals like a Jardine? Is it basically a straight perforated tube dumping into the end chamber with dual outlets? |

The Buell race can is maintenance free, no packing to replace. Strap it on, go fast, make noise. |

I currently have a Jardine on my bike right now. What i'm trying to do is cut open my stock can and make a homemade style race can out of it. But I keep hearing different things about what is acctualy inside a stock race can. (Message edited by tattoo72 on July 10, 2008) |

I can give you some info on a guy that does stock cans to better performing cans. He keeps something like 3lbs of back pressure. His service is only 150 + shipping. He said his turnaround is also just one week... I've pinged him about one and should be getting one soon. |

For the right price I'll dissect my Buell Race muffler, and post pictures of the entire process. What's it worth to ya? |

yes true...they are but you will not get the full performance out of the bike with the jardine.. According to the exhaust shoot out on the American Sport Bike site the jardine works quite well with the 9. |

I wish you would have sold your can about a year ago Darth. That would have eliminated my company having to do my race can and my header black. |

Heh...I might try to pawn it off on Scott (met him at Homecoming and we tooled around for the last couple days together - he's from SE MI). His XB9SX is still bone stock and he expressed an interest in kitting it. It's sat in my garage for...oh...4 years? Dave mentioned to me at Homecoming that they were pretty scarce nowadays and I thought, 'you know, you should really just sell it, it's not like you're gonna put it back on the damned bike'. |

Well, geez... ...screw you BadWebbers, eBay it is! LOL What does one do nowadays if you put a K&N and free[er]-flowing exhaust on a Buell, since they don't make the race ECMs anymore? Can the stock ECM adjust well enough or are you stuck going the ECMSpy or similar route? |

FWIW, there's a cross section drawing in the manual. |

In my understanding of performance exhaust, I would assume it would be similar to a chambered performance muffler(ie. magnaflow, flowmaster). Being a muffler without packing, it would probably have a few simple divert walls and no seperate chambers. The figures from the shoot-out would also suggest that no tubes would be spaced/sectioned. The muffler would have little to almost no back pressure.
I apologize for the drawing, but the principal is sound. By changing the location, size, and angles of these walls you can truly customize the output in the Higher RPM's. It will also cause drastic changes it the tone and volume of the exhaust. Now you have me pondering hacking into my can! If you were comparing it a muffler on a 350 or 5-liter . . . Jardine's Can = Thrust Cherry Bombs Possible Hack Can = Flowmaster 40 -Disclaimer- I am not a professional Muffler Builder like Special OPS Odie or Mr. Drummer. I also don't have any of these mufflers. But I do understand these principles. Maybe the race can doesn't involve these methods. But I think it would be worth looking into. And piss off the neighbors When I have a bad day and I can't simmer down ... I follow these three steps: 1. Open garage door 2. Aim the good 'ol 2-stroke's stinger toward the street. 3. BRRRaaaapppppppp!! till the neighbors come out!! -INSTANT BLISS- p.s. the benchracer is worried about back pressure? |
