I think its pretty safe to assume it will be replaced with the XB1125S but that's just my opinion, only time will tell. |

Or maybe Buell will shorten it to the XB11S or 1125S. Wouldn't it be cool if they lopped off the rear cylinder and had an XB5 or XB5.625 ? |

I highly doubt they'd be getting rid of the Harley engine in the Lightning. It's part of the mass appeal of the motorcycle. The Evo engine enjoys a huge aftermarket following, with tons of kits for cams, pistons, heads, etc., making it more akin to the support you find for small block Fords and Chevys. Replacing it with the 1125 Rotax engine is great, but not everyone is interested in an Austrian powerplant with little aftermarket following in the US. |

and they would have to add 6 inches to the wheel base!!!! Not a bad thing though!! |

"No more xb12s" And how, exactly, have we established that, since the '09's aren't out yet? (XBXP excluded) |

Possible oil cooled heads like the Euro Sportster with a slightly higher compression ratio and a revised EFI map; stand by for six speeds! |

No six speed. thats too bad...I was noticing the other day how much I'd love to have one. Then I could cruise in traffic at 75 mph at 3500 rpm instead of 4200 or whatever it is. Only reason is I think I would get a little better milage that way. Also a 6th gear might give enough top end speed to keep up with the jap bikes. |

"Also a 6th gear might give enough top end speed to keep up with the jap bikes." Don't think so. These bikes already have a hard time getting all the way to the Rev limiter in 5th. Too much air drag and too little HP. |

Xbswede - Oh, I didn't realize that. I've only had my bike up to 95 mph. And I'm new to motorcycles so I really have no idea what the capabilites of a jap bike are. So an off subject question, how much power do the jap bikes make?? |

"So an off subject question, how much power do the jap bikes make?" Liter bikes make 50-80 or more horse power than the air cooled Buells. |

Only reason is I think I would get a little better milage that way. It's already been shown that XBs get better gas milage in 4th gear at 75mph than in 5th gear, what makes you think a 6th gear would be any better? Bold new colors! |

Nik - Because I rode 2 full tanks of fuel, back to back. One at 75 mph in 4th and One at 75 mph in 5th, and I got 3mpg better running in 5th. And that is 5th at around 4200 RPM, if I slow to 5th and 70mph which is around 3700 rpm I gain another 3 mpg. I know that the lower wind drag is probably a big factor, but in my expriance the slower engine speed results in better mpg. |

Oh goodie - another 09 rumor thread!!! It has been 24 full hours since the last one started up. New for 09 - Okra styling themes and square (rectangular) headlights. The factory is tight-lipped on the okra thing. Notice that Buell has not produced anything Green since the S3? (Message edited by slaughter on July 09, 2008) |

Mnbueller, if you want you can swap in the XB12 primary, it will increase your gearing by about 11%. 60 = 3000rpm, 65 = 3250, 70 = 3500, 75 = 3750, 80 = 4000. American Sport Bike sells it. |

not sure if it has anything to do with 09 models, but one of the local dealers mentioned they are not going to carry any XB's anymore. Just the 1125. |

I think a new Tube-frame 1125 motor bike could be pretty neat! Too bad that motor isn't pretty. |

I heard the TT is discontinued in '09 due to poor sales and there will be 2 new models based on the 1125 platform. My guess is a Lightning and some sort of touring version which would then give Buell a sportbike, a streetfighter and a tourer to start the expansion of the water cooled line and the eventual discontinuation of the air cooled line. Only changes for all remaining '09 air cooled models is color. I'm still an airhead so I just bought one of the last few '08 TT's for $8700 out the door. It's a screamin' deal that I couldn't pass up and it's my 10th buell. For any TT fans there are tons of '07 TT's sitting in dealer's showrooms begging to be sold. I located about 35 in a 5 state region. I chose the '08 for the improved Thunderstorm motor. We'll all know the truth in 17 days. |
