I 've just given the REDLINE Supershcock heavy the boot.... I'm now running Mobil 1 15W-50 in the primary along w/15W-50 in the engine... The reason for this was based on the fact that HD is recommending "their" synthentic be utilized in both cavities.... I've adjusted the clutch and primary and dumped in the "juices"... Then took it for a test run (20 mi)... It actually seems to shift easier... Of course, this can poss be attributed to to the clutch and primary adjustments.... What's your take? |

I switched to Mobil 15W50 Full Synthetic while on my adventure home from the 20th Anniversary. I just recently changed to a Synthetic 75W90 Oil for the primary, put 300km on it and seems to be good, and actually shifts much better. I wondering if something is gonna explode soon. |

I'm using Redline 20-50wt. in the primary on my XB right now. Same reasoning as Freyke. I just happened to have a lone quart left over from another use when it was due. |

Mobile 15W-50 is heavy enough for the primary?!? HD says to use the same weight oil in both? Mobile One 75W-90 is in my primary. DAve |

I just changed my oil and went with Castrol Syntec blend 20W50 and left the Primary. I did it at 500 miles. As soon as I hit 1000 miles I will go to full synthetic in both, Castrol Syntec 20W50 swing arm and Castrol Syntec 75W90 in the Primary. I will be using a K&N oil filter also. |

Klotz 75w/90 in the primary of my XB. Doesn't seem any better than Syn3. Mobil-1 75W/90 is going in next. Cheaper, too. Prof |

Well, when I change it this weekend it'll have Mobil 1 75W90 Gear Lube in the primary and Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 in the engine... Can you guess what oil filter I'll be using??? Kevin |

Redline no longer recommends their shockproof oil for XL trannys. The solid lubricants in it tend to gum up the clutch and the stator. |

I changed to HD syn in both swingarm and primary 2-300 miles back, and it SEEMS to run a little cooler and shift better. Did same in my Superglide and X-1, they SEEM to like it better also. Prob will change to Mobil-1 or Syntec sometime in future just because it easier to find and cheaper. |

I changed at 550 mi., on my XB, to HD Synth in both as per the service manager's suggestion. I know 20/50 synth can be had cheaper but a qt of Mobil1 75/90 is the same price as the HD stuff, and I was already there for a filter. Can't say I notice a difference because summer is fast leaving NY edited by leeaw on October 01, 2003 |

Though not an XL / XB, our Superglide seriously appreciated the Mobil-1 15-50. The finicky neutral light gradually got less finicky after the switch (from HD tranny & primary oils). It now indicates N damned near perfectly. Shifting got crisper. The strange clutch "grab before the grab" thing went away INSTANTLY - and I didn't adjust the clutch. We also switched the Blast's primary to Mobil-1 15-50. I haven't been the primary operator of that bike for darned near a year now (I miss it DEARLY and ride it every chance I get) but Loli says it shifts better. -Saro |

I see a lot of folks are using Mobil 1 oil in their engines but are you using the "Mobil 1 With SuperSyn 15W-50" advertised for car motors or the "Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50"? |

Mobil 1 V-Twin is better for our motors. It has additional addatives that the regular Mobil 1 can't include because of the catalytic converters on cars. Use the V-Twin blend. Timbo |

But since the Mobil1 V-twin costs the same price as HD Synth, I use the HD because it is easier to get. |

I switched from Syn3 to Mobil-1 15W/50 auto oil at the last changing. Motor runs as cool or cooler with the Mobil-1. Cheaper, too. Mobil-1 15W/50 "Tri-Synthetic" or "Super-Synthetic" auto oil is less than $4/qt at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club. It is clearly better than the HD360 from the dealer. My XB9S runs cooler with it than the stock oil. But is it as good or better than Syn3? Seems to be, from my SOTP evaluation. |

Crankcase: Mobil-1 V-Twin 20W-50 Primary: Mobil-1 MX4T 10W-40 I trust the V-Twin oil as Mobil claims it is specifically made for the higher temps of Air-cooled V-Twins. The engine was noticeably quieter and smoother when I switched to Mobil-1 at about the 2000 mile mark. Also switched to MX4T at that time. Shifting is smoother, no trouble finding neutral. |
