Exactly 8 years and 1 week since I first rode a Buell (and bought it) and exactly 1 year (to the hour) of a night in ER after a crunching accident, I am without a Buell and without a motorcycle.
Even before the accident I wanted to sell the XB9S and get a smaller ride, something like the Blast I had before. So it felt both good and sad to see the XB9S going to a good home with a rider who will treat her well. He knows about the accident and the just-about total rebuild (frame, swingarm, wheels, bars, triple-tree, air box cover, primary cover, etc.). All is good. Craigslist works again. I got what I hoped for, maybe a little more, for a bike that is not in much demand. But I have to say that the XB9S was the best of the 7 cycles I have owned. Not even close. Awesome design and great on the road. But it is time for a change. I found excuses NOT to ride rather than reasons TO ride. So, what now? If Buell were to refresh the Blast I would be all over it. Maybe a Bonnie, R Enfield, Ural, Savage? Gotta be lighter and lower. Suggestions? Thanks, and I'll be sticking around here awhile. I'm too young to not get another ride. Norm |

Sorry to see that you let go of your XB9. But all stories need a end and it seems that you are still wanting to ride. Smaller bikes to check out: http://www.hyosungmotorsusa.com/ Crack on them all ya want. Hyosung has been making the motor components for Suzuki's SV650 for almost a decade now. They branched out and started making their own bikes! Look at the 250cc standards . . . its a 70+ mpg Suzuki SV! |

I know where several new Blasts are ... WE even have an O9 already. And as far as I can tell, no new news for 09. Black is black, and they still have the older lower end. There is the XB-Blast build up that is going on . ANd I am off and running on my own personal Blast dirty bike (XR250 donor w Blast bodywork) Drop me a note if you want to come out our side of the water. Lunch is on me |

Norm, as we discussed earlier on the phone, go check out a Ural. I know it is not a single cylinder, but with a hack you could take the wife/son with you. That and the kiddies at school would think you were "hardcore" I know Brian has some involvement with them, I bet he could give all the info you need. |

How tall are you? A Kawasaki KLX-250S would be a lot of fun in a lot of places, and you can't beat the price. |

Oh the Ural is fun, My friend works over at the corporate office in Redmond. Lots of parts available as they are just recastings of seized BMW parts. I would love to have one for camping and backcountry riding. All the gear, I could disappear for months. And in orange of course

Long time. 1 year old daughter will need more tread and "oil" changing than an XB! Way to go, now don't spoil the princess... |

Quick update on being w/o motorcycle: (1) The insurance arbitration is done for my 06/30/07 accident and the other driver was 100% at fault. Well, duh. It only took a year... Now a lawyer will step in to assist in an appropriate pain/suffering settlement. (2) I've made a verbal agreement to buy an '08 Royal Enfield Electra-X, which should be the same color as this one:
Kick/electric start, carb, EI, 23hp on a good day, etc. Retro heaven. I'm told if I start a ride on Sunday it'll be up to 60mph by Monday. Cool! I'll get to relearn valve adjusting. It's been awhile. A solo spring seat is on the short list of options. Actually I do know what I'm getting into here and don't expect even Blast like performance. These models are proving to be reliable but require a constant wrench and look over. 1951 advertisement:

A slice of history, I would love to have their scrambler. The damage I could do with one of those...

The new Muell is at the shop getting the timing chain done.... as soon as that is complete then it is off with the Lego building set for the Blast body kit. I am hoping that we can get that done in a weekend and a case of beer (the eternal garage commodity labor exchange) All the body kit is black, so I will have to get some orange in there somehow. |
