So when i am riding between 45 and 55 either accelerating or decelerating the bike has a bad wobble. not so bad you can't control it but enough to get your attention. I checked my tire pressure but was wondering if anyone else has had some problem. it doesn't have a steering dampener on it. any help trouble shooting would be appreciated. thanks steve |

Was your tire balanced when it was installed? Have any of the weights fallen off? Have you checked to make sure that the suspension on both forks is adjusted the same? How old is your tire? Is it significantly worn? Any blemishes? |

Are the weights on the same side as the rotor? |

Thats weird -- I don't have that on my 12R and never had something like that on any other bike I have owned or ridden, so I would say something is up but you didn't say what kind of bike it is, miles, etc. |

Now don't quote me me on this, but from my time here on BW that sounds like a loose triple tree. I suspect someone with more experience with this will chime in. |

yea it sounds like the steering head bearing need to be snugged up. their is a whole procedure on how to check and adjust them in the shop manual. how many miles are on the bike? |

sounds like a loose triple tree. thats what i was kinda thinking. it is an 03 9R with only 2200 miles on it. |

pick up the front end and pull and push on the forks. should be solid. If not check head bearing. |

Barker is spot on, I would check head bearings. Are those the original tires???? I would probably replace them just because of age. Dampener will just mask the problem. Some view the dampener as just another farkle, yet others a necessity. I am of the opinion that you shouldn't ride hard enough on the road to need one on the road. One other question.....What is your riding experience. Wobbles are often caused by death grips on the handle bars. Relax your grip a bit. |

My Uly had a similar problem, and tightening the trees definitely helped. |

And I don't mean get one... I mean it's "Damper", not "Dampener". We aren't trying to make something more wet, we're trying to damp unwanted oscillations. |

Well, damping aside (really, lets not go there again) fix first then improve. Sounds like Tires (balance/wear?), Forks (leak/bad setup?), Triple Tree (loose). Sounds like a harmonic or sympathetic vibration since it isn't constant. |

A rare, but often overlooked cause of front end wobble can be a loose swing arm mounting, The rubber insert in front engine mount on the 2003 was often prone to failure. Didn't cause a wobble on mine, but it didn't improve the handling, that's for sure. |

Check your wheel bearings too, if either yourself or a previous owner are wheelie kings, the wheel & headstock bearings will have been well hammered. If it's not been maintained there may be no grease left in them either. Another thing to check is that both fork legs are clamped at the same height, yeah I know it sounds dumb but I've seen worse stuff than that on brand new vehicles. The thing to do is to go back to basics & start from original specs. Bearings are cheap enough & not too much bother to change yourself. |

Are you on your front brake when it happens? If so it could be brake pulsing. Mine did a lot of that and it was intensified substantially when the steering head bearings were loose. |

Mine did a lot of that No kiddin'! Nothing like intense pulsing while you are being beaten to death by the BAW. I'd have to say that it added a certain degree of interest to Deal's Gap. |
