So now the next time we ride side by side you'll pull the front end up too? Now that would be a "Kodak" moment. Me and Bubba doing side by side wheelies! I can't wait. Ride to the edge! Dave Iowa HD/Buell (Buell Cycle Center) |

yes sir but you'll ride much farther than me because I pretty much suck at that. The fact that I can do it now says something. I'll call ya |

Buckinfubba, I am on the fence looking in, I have ridden the new XB12S and thinking of replacing my X1. The only complaint I have is the XB12S' stock exhaust, of course I am comparing it to the factory race kit on my X1 though. 1. Will it work on the XB12S in conjunction with the new interactive exhaust valve (IEV, Race ECM, and Race Filter)? 2. Instead of the 45 degree elbow coming of the back, maybe salvage the stock stainless oval, cut, shape, fit and weld in place of the current one sticking out. 3. What is the weight savings or increase vs. stock? and would the use of stainless steel wool packing ie like Borla last longer than other packing or save weight? Luvin Mississippi, Nick.

Nick I'll speak up for Brian, knowing he is tied up today with the poker run the dealership is having. I'll try and give you the closes answer. 1. The IEV is in the stock XB12 exhaust can. The Factory Race can and the Drummer does away with the IEV. Brian should be testing a XB12 this week. 2. Changing the exit could make the power output lower. 3. The Drummer can is 8lbs lighter then the stock XB9 can and 4lbs lighter then the factory race can. The packing is a secret. Brian won't even tell me what it is. I hope this helped you out. Thanks Nxtr, You asked the questions I was curious about... Spooky, I'd be willing to sacrifice some power for the cleaner look of the stock outlet, do you see that as an option? Thanks! |

Eric Thanks for grabbing the ball there and running with it!! Appreciate it Nick I'll do my best here, The length of the outlet makes a difference. We tested on this. We tested the angle of the out let and the placement of the outlet. We've tested different packing materials for performance and sound. We believe the type we are using is the best for everything we wanted to accomplish, sound and performance. This packing is still in kevins bike after 5 years of use. We are using this stuff as of this time, I never say never. Thanks for the thought. As far as using the valve in the 12 right now the answer is no. Mainly because we feel we don't need it. Remember that one of the reasons for the valve is because to get the power they wanted with the exhaust and still stay in the epa noise standards it had to be done. Necessity is the mother of invention. God love the folks at buell for using it. I won't say for sure this will work as well on the 12, but when we were designing it we also had the 12 in mind. In other words the size of the headers the throttle body and all that. We think it will work but ubtil we try it I won't stake my name to it. But I would bet on it. BTW Tripp rode my bike today. Now he has been at the gap the last 2 days ridin with erik and the winners of the slay the dragon sweepstakes. So he's been on other buells the last 2 days. When he came back, after telling me he jumped a railroad track on my bike, I said whatta think his words and I quote " now thats a mother f#$%^er, the power was smooth and strong. damn that change the bike totally" I'd say thats a good review!!!! now I'll go and see if he broke anything. Last time he rode somebody s3 he broke the belt. Of course he said he wasn't hotrodding.hahahah whatever!!! |

Bubba, Looks like a great pipe. Can't wait to see / hear one. I know a lot of guys up here (Iowa) would be real interested if Dave could get-a-hold of one to check-out. I'll going to be putting something on my wife's 9s next summer. Damn thing's too quite.

heres stock vs drummer race vs drummer notice that yes from 4700 to 5200 the race beats us by a few but look at the smoothness. we didn't just want big numbers we wanted smooth delivery. we just happened to get bigger numbers Brian Tilley hd/buell buckinfubba@hotmail.com |

thanks glitch....guess I am proud a little! apex1 the crackle is gone from the sound, and only pops a lil bit every once in a while on decel. But its so lil that I don't notice it. Rode in again this morning in the cold 45 degree air and I didn't even notice the tips of my thumbs were numb til I got here. I was having a blast listening and riding my 9. It just feels and sounds great |

Brian, I am so pleased that I did not invest in the race kit and see the results you are getting. If you can refresh my memory, are these numbers with the race ECM and filter, and do you have numbers without? Most of my riding is right in the range where the Drummer beats the race kit, and the curve is very eye pleasing. Curious as to why these pipes seem to cool off a bit around 4.5k. Apparently a new roof is more important than this, and I would need to do it in stages. Nice work! |

LEE I dont' have numbers without the race ecm because they just weren't good down low, they were fine up high. some of the reason is the ecm is the best we can figure with that 4.5 k thingy. inconjunction with the pipe. We had a few configuration where we had it better right there but is wasn't as good everywhere else. |

Buckinfubba Great job on the set-up, dyno numbers look excellent. Just a thought for the design of the XB12 version (this is if you have the time to try it) From the cut away drawings on the newly designed 12 muffler, (Cycle World Magazine) Keep the IEV in place. Where the first tube enters the resonance chamber at the rear of the muffler, weld a tube from it to the second tube leading to the front resonance chamber. Next eliminate the tube, which comes from the third tube, which directs exhaust to outlet in the rear resonance chamber. Finally with it removed, enlarge the mufflers outlet to the inside diameter of the welded on stainless shield. Of course this is all based on the premise that the XB12’s race ECM will control the IEV. My thoughts are that the extended continued length of tube 1 to 2 will enhance low-end torque and the retention of the IEV of upper end power. The benefits of the rear resonance chamber and the increase in the overall size of the exhaust opening should enhance top-end power in conjuction with the IEV, and yield a not too loud yet sweet low tone note. (One thing you could confirm though, since you have taken so many apart, is the use of perforated tubing within the muffler it self. If such is the case replace perforated with thin wall stainless tubing). I am not a physics geek nor a professional exhaust tuner these are just observations that may prove to be of benefit, or may fail miserably on the dyno but hey it is worth a try seeing that it would be much easier on the fabrication side as well as more cost effective. This may only result in minimal weight savings, however it will maintain the stock look. Luvin Mississippi, Nick

Nick I've been told by the folks at buell that the race ecm for the 12's do not work the valve. So you may be right but with out that working it seems fruitless. We'll know soon enough if the drummer does a good job on the 12's . hang tight. |

Buckinfubba, Damn them, Too bad it isn't possible to re-program the stock boxes to the race kit settings, and retain the IEV. Or maybe the key on the 12 is simply, Race filter, Stock ECM, and re-designed muffler seeing that the stock internals are configured to pacify the E.P.A. and Granola State C.A.R.B I feel that the IEV may just be the key in the max torque, and max horsepower combo. Damn I need an open account at Sears and a Dyno. Mississippi, Nick |

yeah thats a good Idea. I said as much to them but alas no go. It does make the bike work great. Now if none us cared about the sound we'd all be happy. If ya get the open account at sears and a dyno ...heck you could have another job |

Ya I have the virtual $$$ as well. I am contemplating putting together a 5 year plan and pitching it to one of the local auto dealer or Hon, Yam, Kaw, Suz, BMW,Gas Gas conglomerates. But Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Thats a rough sell brother. Back to reality. XB12S exhaust let me know what you come up with. from the looks of the 9's dyno it looks as though there will be more of a considerable loss on the around the 4 to 5K range. Who knows, keep us posted. Mississippi, Nick |
