I have '03 XB9, the other day my speedo went dead. Needle sweeps at start up, the digital readout is legible, but no speedo or odo's. 3 days later a friend of mine has the same issue with his. the only difference between the bike is mileage. Mine is at 12k and his is at 4k... and the color. mines white, his is blue. I have not tested his yet, but mine has a good ground, 12 volts at the supply, and varying above 6volts at the sense lead with engine running in neutral. The dealer says that they can't remember the last one they replaced, but they have one on the shelf for $65. Is there anything else to test? Need help soon, I am getting ready for the 25th, and I am getting the rest ready to go as we type. Thanks |

Please move to knowledge vault. My fault, I thought I was already there. |

Odd, this happened to me Tuesday. I've set aside some time this weekend to check it out. I figure its a shorted wire or a bad speed sensor. Since the gauge sweeps I'm hoping it's still good. |

I am having a similar issue with my 08 Scg. When I first turn the bike on, in neutral, the speedo needle sweeps all over the place. After I take off, if functions as it's supposed to. If I stop and put it in neutral it doesn't sweep, it only happens when I first turn the bike on. |

Mine did the same thing, now the speedo and odo are non-functional. Mileage is stuck at 9515, any ideas? Is this a cable problem, a gauge problem or a something to do with the gear that runs it all? Sweeps all over the place, then stops functioning all together. |

The diagnostic chart for my '08TT says if the needles sweep, go to the Vehicle Speed Sensor test. The sensor test involves some dealer special tools. The end results are 1. Failed sensor 2. Open wire or connector 3. Bad ECM The needles should "sweep" when the ignition is first turned on; going from zero to max and back to zero in a smooth motion. Is kind of a self-diagnostic check. |

I'm praying for a rubbed wire. |

It's happened to me three times each time I take out the sensor wipe it clean disconnect the connector behind the sprocket cover put everything back together and for some reason it starts working again , each time it failed the engine has been really hot ! |

For those of you with an 03 XB9, (or tubers for that matter) there is an updated sensor that solves this problem. On later model bikes the sensor is fed regulated 5 volts from the ECM. The updated sensor for the older models includes a 5 volt regulator internally. Look for "regulator" and "sensor" in the KV. |
