Well, I have made it as far as Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, from Toronto and discovered a bit of a problem. It seems that cruising at 80mph for several hours will cause oil to leak from your starter all over the left side of the rear tire. Anyone else experience this? More importantly, is there anyone out this way who can provide any assistance? All I really need is to find parts and service in Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

There is no oil in your starter to leak out. Are you sure that your breather tube isn't puking? |

There is NOTHING in Newfoundland. You're best off where you are. If I recall correctly, there was an independent cycle shop specializing in Harley Davidson somewhere near the city of Sydney... |

is the starter loose at all? no movement when the starter button is pushed? route your tranny vent into an aspirin or water bottle and if it starts filling with oil your engine main seal is leaking. i have drained my primary before on a long trip in order to prevent unscheduled maintenance on the road. keep an eye on engine oil level. if the starter is loosening, open primary and tighten. car parts parking lot, buy tools and repair. good luck, tim |

I live in Cape Breton but I'm traveling now and won't be home for more than a week. There is a Harley dealer in Sydney that does not sell Buell, but might be helpful. The closest Buell dealer is in Halifax, Privateer's Harley/Buell. There is a very good independent motorcycle mechanic in Middle River in the Margaree Valley, near Baddeck. The name is Gasit and the phone is 295-3221. Jim and Derek work on just about any motorcycle and should be able to help. |

Ah! I wasn't aware that was an official Harley dealership. I've seen the signs many times but never actually found the place. Hey, while you're up that way, stop here for the fried chicken (it's quite good): Yes, they sell T-Shirts!! |

Well, it's been quite an adventure. I contacted Bill (Newfie_Buell) through the BRAN which is a great resource. He has offered his tools, garage and to help with the repairs. He is a great guy and I can't thank him enough. He also has gone to great lengths to source parts which are not available in ALL of Canada. Got to love the lack of dealer support. I'm heading over to his place in St. John's on Sunday with the bike on my dad's truck. Hopefully everything gets fixed and I can ride home with confidence. This whole experience has confirmed to me that Buell riders (and people from the East coast) really look after each other. Thanks to all you guys for your offers to help and suggestions. I plan to include my contact info in the BRAN as well to help any riders in need when in the Toronto area. Anyone who does a lot of touring should consider doing the same. Check out my other post for trip details. |

FYI: When I rebuilt my engine, I did not have a new starter/primary case gasket. The old one was torn. I just re-used the old gasket with blue RTV and it has worked fine for over a year. |
