Stupid question, I am running my Lightning without the normal front fender or fork guards, is this something i should worry about?

you really DO have to protect the ground surface of the tubes or the seals will fail... and then you'll be SOOOrrrrrryyyy.

The front fender does a fine job of saving the tubes from dings and scratches.
