Was wondering if others do the same thing. Once my fan comes on it will stay on for the duration of the ride. Yesterday while going down the road in 5th gear (the fan was running), I pulled in the clutch, turned the engine off with the emergency off switch, flipped it back on and let out the clutch and of course the bike started back up but this time without the fan coming on. The fan stayed off also until the ride was over, though I wasn't that far from home. Does this signal that there might be something wrong with the sensor, in the fact that the fan isn't shutting off until the current is shut off and then it's able to recycle again? When it comes to the electrics on a bike, especially sensors I'm not that knowledgeable so any info would be appreciated. |

My bike has done this also. I think, I THINK that it has to do with the turn on temp and shut off temp. When your cruising around at some point you reach the fans turn on temperature but never come below the shut off temperature so the fan will run continuously. BUT if you turn your bike off then on again and your below the turn on temp, the fan will stay off. Your ride home was most likely not long enough for you to reach the turn on temp of the fan again. For the fan to turn off again it needs to drop below 180degrees which probably wont happen while riding. Ambient temperatures will very this conclusion of course. This is what i have concluded not sure if it is all correct or not. |

all this sounds plausible to me, but taking a step back, i ask my self why you guys care so much about that 'lil fan? i am never bothered by it running. i actually like it when i go out riding with another bueller, and our fan's run in harmony at the gas station |

im not concerned with the amount my fan runs, if thats what its designed to do...however, my bike does things its not supposed to do and i just wonder if the fan is one of them... |

I have noticed that too, about the fan rarely shutting off on it's own but if I shut the engine off for an instant, the fan sometimes remains off for a long time. So sometimes I do it... I posted on BadWeb about this and someone responded that the fan shut off temperature is something like 40 degrees less than the turn on temperature (I forget the actual numbers) |

I would worry if your fan never comes on. As far as fans that do, it depends on ambient temp, riding style, and engine size (9s run differently than 12s by a bit). Personally I like my fan because that way I know I have gotten my bike to a good temp and that I am keeping the spark plugs clean. Sometimes I notice that the fan seems to stay on longer or it doesn't come on when I think it should but those are exceptions. Like I said, be worried if it doesn't come on. |

Last weekend, hot day, gas station filling up. Brand X motorcycle rider sees the Buell and asks me if it has a fan-because if it did it was running. I informed him that it was - running on high in fact. The rider came over and looked a the Buell, and asked me what it was. A Buell I said. Never heard of it was his reply. Still wondering about that fan, I showed him where the air was blowing out and how this prevented the oil from overheating on shutdown and how it helped in stop and go traffic. After a little more oogleing the bike he pronounced that if Harley Davidson built a sport bike this is what it would be. Anyhow, dumbfounded not that he never heard of buell, and that they had been around for 25 years AND owned by one of the largest motorcycle manufactures in the world I decided to ask him if he wanted to see all of them? I took this Suzuki owner to the Harley/Buell dealership and showed him the fairly complete line of bikes in the showroom before I jetted off - I got a call later from the Salesman at the dealer thanking me for referring this guy - it seems as it is now the owner of a brand new 1125R. I still don't know his name...and I never introduced myself. See what the power of a little fan can do? (Message edited by bumblebee on June 10, 2008) |
