Just heading out the door for a 2 week ride on my '03 XB9S to Newfoundland. I'll be riding with my uncle (bmw f800st) and my "old man" (Buell M2) who I did France with last year. Our route is taking us through Vermont and Maine where we should hit some nice riding. I'm especially looking forward to the Cabot trail in Cape Breton. I'll keep you all posted on the progress!

Sounds great...something every father and son should do together if possible.

I LOVE Newfoundland! One of my FAVORITE motorcycle destinations. Sorry I saw this so late, I could've given you some awesome suggestions.

Make it a "Three Flag Tour." Take the ferry from Grand Banks to St. Pierre et Miquelon and you can tell people you've been to FRANCE. Those little islands are a touch of Europe in the New World with a REAL interesting history.

When you come back, please share your experiences with us!

Some photos from my trip in 2000. We didn't know before we left that there was going to be a HUGE celebration in L'Anse aux Meadows to commemorate the 1,000 year anniversary of the first Europeans to land in the New World: http://www.nassauwings.org/photos/2000/Maritimes/

Wow! What a great trip so far. This time last year I was in the North of France doing the same thing. We have had great luck with weather and route. My uncle "Buellinator" plotted the route and programmed his zumo. We have been riding mostly secondary roads which have been awesome. We rode from Toronto to Vermont yesterday, and to St. Andrews New Brunswick today. About 1000 miles so far. Cabot trail here we come!

Well, I've located someone to help through the BRAN. Bill is a great guy and has gone to great lengths to help me out.
We still rode the Cabot trail, and I have to say I was blown away! I got some great video with my handlebar mounted camera. The rain held off for our day of riding and we managed to go around both ways in about 5 hours. Brisk pace is an understatement.
We then took the ferry from North Sydney to Porte au Basque. Then the rain came. For 14 hours it did not stop! It would not have been so bad if it was warmer than 8 degrees. That was the hardest ride I have had to endure. Our rain gear was put to the test, and most of it FAILED. Joe Rocket is confused about the term "water proof". Alpinestars on the other hand is not confused.
Anyhow, the next step after about a week of sight seeing, hiking and such is to do it all again back to the ferry, and the weather should be more of the same.

Actually, if *I* were going to Newfoundland, I would've waited till late JULY or early August. Otherwise, expect rain (and lots of it) coupled with COLD weather. You're pretty far up north there, ya know. Head on up to St. Anthony and take a tour boat to see the icebergs. They'll be there even in July!

I did 2 shots of screech as soon as I set foot in the door of my dad's house!! It warmed me up pretty quick. The only reason we came out this time of year is because when my old man moved out 3 months ago, he left his Buell M2 at my uncles, and came back for it on the 10th of June for a wedding and that seemed like a good a time as any to take a trip. Yes, now I realize that late July or August would be a much better time. Well, we are here now, and will have to take the grueling trip back to the ferry in about 4 days. I just hope the rain holds off!!!
