I was thinking of eliminating everything from the tail like plate, signals, brackets, reflectors. I like the way crotch rockets look with the tail clean, and high, almost like you'd be able to sit underneath the tail on the tire. Anyways, I was looking into using xblights taillight, with the intergrated signals, but I like to use the red lens not the clear one, and the question was are the signals still very recognizable with the red lens are does everything look like a red bright mess. I know xblights uses amber leds in the red cover, but I'm not sure just how effective amber though a red cover would be. Also one other thing does anyone know of where I might be able to find a black lens or have the red len made black? Window tint maybe? |

I think I've seen smoked lenses, can't remember where tho. Robert's lights (XBLights) are excellent. He made me a full integrated one with clear lens for my 1125R. Can't say for the red lens, but the clear one is very visible.

Well, I can tell you the clear is going to be your brightest! the red lens does allow the amber to shine through, but its probably about 75% emitting light compared to the clear lens. The clear lens creates more of a sharp, crisp visibility over the red lens (with turn signals). But with just brakes the Red lens is my personal favorite! The pics on the site.. http://www.xblights.net/redturn.html DO not do the light justice. In the pics it looks like the turn signals are redish in color (matching the running/brake LED's) with the eye they are not, you can still tell they are amber and not red (unless you stare at them for more then 5 seconds, then everything turns a red color, haha!) I personally would recommend the clear lens with the turn signals, but understand liking the red better (as I have red on my XB, but have external signals) I want to say clear alternatives has a smoked lens. Tint would be easy to scratch as you'd have to apply it on the outside (inside is too bumpy) Thanks for the kind words Zac! did you get my check? By chance do you have that first pic with the running lights and license plate LED's on? that would look really well! back on topic.....I have sold a few of the Red lens with turn signals, so hopefully some one will chime in and let you know what they thought......after all, no ones knows better then the consumer! Hope I helped! -Robert Hall xblights@yahoo.com |

I may just call xblights and see if i can get one custom made. I want to put the plate on the undertail and dont need the plate lights installed. Id like the tail as clean as possible. Thanks for all your input. |

Having one made with no license plate lighting is no biggie at all. actually id say about 70% of the ones I sell do not have license plate lighting, most people just don't need it through the tail light housing, but some do. I know the website is lacking data like that and I'm in the works to update it all. Hopefully soon! just too busy building lights here lately, haha! shoot me an email if you have any questions xblights@yahoo.com Thanks -Robert Hall www.xblights.com |

I have seen both in person and the Clear alternative ones don't hold a candle to XBlights....much brighter and better as far as I'm concerned and he is a sponsor I built my own before Robert started making them but it is starting to show some ware from vibrations and the LEDs aren't of his quality. So when I get some extra coin I'm going to be buying one from him. As far as Tint I tinted a Red and Clear one. Just scuffed the out side with 120 grit. Tinted with Testors model car window tint (5 bucks a car) and then cleared. its holding up great and that was 2+ years ago. I think I did either 2 heavy coats or 3 light ones, cant remember, Its a hair on the dark side but I didn't want to re-do it. |
