I want to get the 1,000 service done on my XB in a month or so. My question is, would it be suitable to store it over the winter with synthetic and not have to drain it in the spring, or is it "proper" to always store it with fresh oil and then drain it for spring? | ||

Leelaw,If I had fresh oil when I put my bike in storage,I wouldnt drain the new oil out when I started riding when it warmed up.I have never drained oil out of a bike,that wasnt needed to be changed at the proper time.Save the money and take your significant other out to dinner! | ||

Change your oil before you put it away. Regular motor oil or synthetic. Then in spring, warm it up & change to synthetic with a fresh filter. The idea is to throw away the acid laden old oil to reduce internal corrosion over the winter. Then throw away the oil with the condensation that built up over the winter. It might be overkill, but it's just a few quarts of oil & a filter, and it gives you a chance to really look at the bike & make sure all is well for spring. |
