Does anyone know what the torque is for the rear gear in the primary? The one that holds the clutch basket? Also the compensator nut us supposed to get torqued to 240lbs, right? what about the small 5/16 bolts holding on the front gear in the primary? Getting ready to to my primary change today, is there anything else I need to know? |

This where that $60 for the manual would really pay for itself. There are a lot of helpful hints that will keep you out of trouble when doing "minor" little things like this. I sold my SM when I sold my 12r, otherwise I would give you all the torque specs you would want. |

If you still need help later today I will PM you. I don't have the manuel in front of me but I will in about 3-4 hours. And Ccryder is correct that manuel does come in handy for this reason alone. Dang torque settings. lol |

Well I successfully broke the magnets off the stator cover at work pressing the gear out of it, go me! So I need to buy a new cover for it now which only comes with the gear. Anyone want a primary reduction kit? |

Clutch mainshaft nut 70-80 ft-lbs.with blue Loctite. Engine sprocket nut 190-210 ft-lbs.with red Loctite. |

For Rotor to Sprocket, book suggests (pg 7-31 of 2004 manual) installing eight new mounting fasteners and they are tightened to 90-110 in-lbs. |

Jramsey, I also broke one of mine out the very same way. I cleaned the area, took a electric engraver and engraved/roughed up the rotor area where the magnet was, re-cleaned and then applied JB weld and re-attached it. Then I attached 2 Kant-Twist C-clamps to it and let it set for 24 hours. I have put about 4000 plus miles on the bike since and have hit the rev limiter on many occasions and not a single problem, so far. (Message edited by point_doc on June 04, 2008) |
