I know it defeats a purpose, but have to ask; Is it possible to install forward controls on an xb? maybe off a sportster? |

ugh, you're kidding right? since the frames are totally different, you'd have to fabricate them. but please, JUST SAY NO! |

Ever seen forward controls on a sportbike? Don't let the 45* V-Twin fool you. It ain't no Harley. |

Assuming that one could achieve an acceptable riding position, (something that I sincerely doubt), there is a structural impediment to your plan. The sort of forward controls that you mention are normally fitted to bosses that come on every Harley. These bosses are on the front down tubes, and are designed specifically to mount forward controls. Not only does the Buell not come equipped with these fitments, they do not have the front down tubes upon which they are mounted. So, simply put, the answer would be no. Of course given ample supplies of time and money, any thing, no matter how silly, is possible.

There are forward controls possible. It simply requires the Redneck Engineering "kit". |

If you just want to stretch a leg, you might think about something like these Highway bars. Popular with old skool riders, they don't have any controls, but they do let you stretch out on the old greenstamp. Lot cheaper too. |

forward pegs and controls are possible on any bike, it's just a matter of how easy, hard, cheap or expensive it is. It's not my cup of tea, but that's beside the point, just like any custom mod. I'm not against the concept, except for the fact it makes your bike much harder to control with anything close to precision. Whether or not millions of bikes have them is immaterial. |

Umm, maybe this isn't an issue but what about lean angle reduction -- seems like forward controls would cause some significant reductions. Seriously, wouldn't it just be easier and make more sense to get a cruiser and ride that? If the ergos on an XB are not your cup of tea go with another bike -- a Sportster for example. I love custom solutions and am all about unique stuff but the XBs are designed to have the rider in a certain body position, etc. Just my .02 cents |

Like I asked before, how many sportbikes have (or have as an option) forward controls? It's not that you can't. It's just that the mechanical issues are more profound. You'd need to mount "legs" to the front engine mount. You'd then need to run linkage back to the shifter and relocate the master cylinder to the front controls. Then you'd have to be satisfied with having lost 100% of the "sporting" stance in rider position. It WOULD be easier to mount "highway" bars to the front engine mount. You'd still have to make sure your highway pegs were removable or were short enough not to impede lean angle. The additional problem you have with sportbikes is that the width of the bikes increases as you get farther forward. The airbox (or tank) forces your legs outward. You' need pegs that extended pretty far each side. You either have a comfortable position or a position that provides best handling, control, and ground clearance. Not both. I have worked out multiple positions to stretch and relieve pressure including placing my leg up on the frame and frame puck leaning forward to stretch out the ham strings. Don't know what to tell you. Anything is possible with enough money, time and talent. If it's a deal killer for you, you might want to rethink bike choices. No shame in that. Riding a sportbike like a cruiser is the worst of all worlds. You don't get the riding comfort of a cruiser and you don't use the bike to its potential for handling. |

If I'm on a long ride by myself I put the passenger pegs down. When I know I'll be crusin' awhile I put my feet back there. Maybe not the smartest thing...but pretty comfy. Completely ass backwards from what your wanting though. I'm just an ass backwards type of guy...sorry. (Message edited by firebolt32 on May 26, 2008) (Message edited by firebolt32 on May 26, 2008) |

You know I never thought about using the rear pegs to stretch out on, am going to try it out in the morning. Thanks for that so simple. Riding this bike has been rewarding as a dual purpose for me transportation and all out plain old riding w/ friends. |

I think the extra handlebar is for a passenger, isn't it? I've seen grips that suction-cup onto the tank for passengers, too. |

Found ya a riding partner... i have to say i dont care for the look of that yami with the bars like that, but i bet its more comfy for the long haul which he seems to be doing. notice there are no controls on them. so you just set the throttle lock and cruise. the thing i do like about the set up is that it appears those bars are easily removable once you get to your destination and want to have some fun. now that makes me like the idea a bit more! |

I just stand up if I need to stretch my legs. Good for the circulation and takes the pressure off your butt, too. No extra charge and you don't **** up the looks of the bike either. |

I stop every 50 miles no matter what and that keeps me going for 400+ a day on my 12R. |

Only 50? Practice, son. You'll get there. My Cyclone had a much better range than my XB12Ss, but I'd just stand up on the pegs and stretch at 100 miles, then stop to refuel and walk around a bit at 200 miles. It's a system that's worked very well for me for covering 700+ mile days (like the ride from New York to Daytona Beach and back). With the XB12Ss, I've adjusted that to 80 and 160 but I haven't really made any long trips with that bike yet. I usually take the K1200LT (which can go nearly 300 miles on a tank of gas... too bad my BUTT can't). |

Just put your legs up on the frame pucks. Sure it looks like your doing Yoga, but it can be comfy at times. |

Those extra yami bars look like a dental appointment...you definitely would not clear those bars in an accident!!! S**t they have no controls on them, buy the time you unlock the throttle...??? (Message edited by point_doc on May 27, 2008) |
