Another question. Browsing the owners manual I see that there is a helmet lock cable in the tool kit. My 2005 XB12scg did come complete with the tool kit, though I don't know if the cable is in there (guess I'll have a look). But how does it work? Thanks again. | ||

It's a little cable loop. Remove the seat (you'll have to anyway to get to the toolkit), slip the cable through your helmet's D-rings (or buckle clasp depending on your helmet) and loop the free end over one of the seat post anchors in the frame. When you lock down your seat, you secure the helmet in place. Of course, all a thief would need is a simple wire cutter to get your helmet. I think a thicker cable would be a wise investment (but then you'd have the problem of where to stow it when you're not using it). | ||

if you don't need passenger pegs, the Badlionsfan design helmet lock is the best i've seen yet for the XB's.   | ||

Nothing like "tootin" your own horn there Bad!  Awesome design. What I did with my 9R was screw small hooks into the frame of the tail section under the passenger seat. Slip the D rings over and pop the seat back on. Sure they can cut the strap but the joke's on them when they don't have any D rings to fasten to. | ||

Hey badlionsfan where'd ya get that - I'd love one! Turns out I don't have the cable any how. But was thinking I could fabricate a cable to put thru the seat locking mechanism. I just hate taking off the seat. So far I've been putting the strap of my helmet thru the strap on the seat...so far no one has even touched it. I guess I have an unappealing helmet (ugly). | ||

to get that, you gotta make it. start with a helmet guardian, available at jp cycles and other online cycle stores. score at the yellow line in the pic below. remove the lock assembly and bend the bracket back 90 degrees (red arrow). drill a hole the size of the bolt for the passenger peg bracket (don't remember the size). now cut the bracket at the red line. strip the paint that has cracked from the bending and such, repaint, reassemble and install. and now for the crappy microsoft paint illustration.  | ||

I may give it a try - kinda liked the passenger pegs - though I would never in a million years ride someone on the back of my bike. It just looks as if I laid the bike down those pegs would take some of the impact. However, now that I'm buying some sliders - maybe I won't need them! | ||

I've pancaked my Ss and it broke off the peg itself but the bracket stood up pretty well. I wonder if it would be possible to use part of the bracket from the stock helmet gaurdian as a spacer so that you could still use the passenger pegs. |
