My last bike was a '99 H-D XL Custom... it was a great bike to ride for 30-45 minutes after work to de-stress. Looking to get another bike after 7 years of being "bike-less". I have always liked the design/looks of Buells... especially the XB9SX. I would use this bike in the same manner as my old XL... afterwork/evenings and weekend rides. Has anyone made a similar transition to Buell... pros of the Buell over the XL? Looking at the H-D Nightster as an option as well, but not sure I want to go with the same thing I had in the past. I've only been seriously looking for an XB9SX for about 3/4 days now, but wow, used versions seem to be vary rare in the Northeast (or, I should say, go quickly). May end up having to go new to get what I would like. |

If you go to a dealer and demo a Nightster, and then a CityX, your next post will be about your new Buell. |

having both in the garage.... the Buell sees the ride more often 20k miles in 15 months vs 10k miles in 4 years for the sportster |

I started with a 02 883R sporty, traded in on a then new 06 CityX and never felt like I made the wrong decision, the Buell got more miles in one year than the sporty did in 4. Just make sure its the style of riding your looking for. Sure you can cruise on a Buell, but your not really using until you push it a little in the turns. Good Luck with your decision. |

in all seriousness, the CityX is a great bike -- and a great deal for the money. Yeah, permagrin is a bit of an issue with Buells -- I still have mine a year later... |

+1 on the CityX. Nice ride. It likes the twisties though. It's a little choppy (due to the short wheelbase) on the bumpy freeway - but not bad. Get it in Hero Blue and become a Hero. |

I was jones'ing bad for Nightster. Until I test rode one. The Nightster may be one of the best - or THE best looking bike in the Harley stable. But in stock form, it's in no way a distance bike - and if you like lean when you go around a corner, you're going to be in for a world of disappointment. But it sure looks sweet! |

I agree, after having rented a Nightster this winter in Phoenix, I love the look of the bike, but hey, you can't beat modern technology and the advances in power, handling, and fun factor. I'm no longer a bonified cruiser guy. |

Nick I just made the change from a 01 Dynaglide two months ago. I hardly remember the Dyna. When you ride your Buell it will give you a perma grin, and when your not able to ride you may find yourself just staring a it. I can tell you now that my next bike will be a Buell. I still love that Dyna but I was always trying to make it what a Buell already was. But cheaper and lighter and more powerful. If you liked scraping your pegs on that Sporty then you'll love a Buell. |

Thanks for all the great responses! I've made the decision -- City-X it is... just can't seem to find one in the entire Northeast in my price range. Looking hard for an '05 Hero Blue... scanning E-Bay, Craigslist, etc., no luck so far, or I "just missed it". I'll report in as the quest continues. Thanks! |

Look in the bikes for sale part of the forums -- someone might have one or you can put in a post in the motorcycles wanted part. And there are sponsors here that will work with you to get one and get it shipped to your door ready to go. |

I bought a used 2003 xb9sl and made it look like a cityx (hero blue with hand guards) can't tell the difference until you sit on it, and you can actually touch the ground!

well Bignick, honestly they are two different bikes. you came to a buell sight and ask if you think you should buy a buell. Of course were gonna say heck ya. buell straight line freeway? yes! handles very well? yes! looks bad a$$? yes! ride quality compared a Nightster? very good! ride hight compared to Nightster very high, Nightster looks awesome too. Nightser has a very hard ride but does have a laid back position! I myself prefer the standard layout of the buell...Nightster might be cool round town though! If your looking to just be cool looking? I'd buy the Nightster! If your looking for a ridable real world bike that grabs attention even over the common Harley as well as Ducati's I'd buy a buell! Don't get me wrong though, I'm sure you can tune and build the Nightster to your liking but the buell stock will be more bike then you can ever build the Nightster to be! |

Regarding the 08 performance upgrades, have you asked you dealer if the 07 ecm is any different from the 08? I've heard you can do a pipe w/o the ecm but it's not recommended. I just did a drummer, race ecm, and UNI air filter. Amazing difference. Kevin at Drummer is a great guy and makes a great product. Also, don't forget the suspension when thinking about performance modification. www.kdfab.com www.unifilter.com |

The CityX was the best bike I ever had.... The Sportster was the worst.... That's all I have to say. (Sportster owners, please don't get offended, it's a matter of personal opinion) Ken |

I'm afraid that when it comes to Sportsters vs. Lightnings, it's purely subjective. My guess would be that there's a significantly larger population that is intrigued by the looks of a Sportster over the Lightning. Their idea of fun riding isn't for the performance and handling of a finely crafted high performance machine, but for the nostalgia and fun of riding a good ol' HD. As for me? High performance, incredible handling, and fuel in frame is the name of the game! |

I loved my souped up Sportster, rode it every day to work and for fun. And then, back in 1995, I took a test ride on a Thunderbolt. It was like the Sportster to the 10th power. The XB12S I rode felt even better. Sportsters are good bikes, but the XBs take the concept ALL THE WAY. |
