I just purchased my 2003 XB9S and it came with a Jardine exhaust. It is absolutely rocking my left ear even when I wear ear plugs. How much quieter is the Buell racing exhaust and how much quieter will the Jardine "Quiet Module Insert" make it? I like the idea of extra power but it takes days for my ear to get back to normal and I am not willing to throw away my hearing for a motorcycle. Has anyone else run into this issue? I am also wondering if maybe a different helmet would help. The sound seems to reverberate through the whole helmet. I am using an Icon Battlecry helmet. thanks Houston |

I had the exact same problem when I put a Drummer on my Ulysses. Could'nt stand the reverb rocking my helmet. Took it off and went back to stock.....ahhh, I never thought I'd like a quiet exhaust as much as I do. |

Sometimes a different helmet will help. The quiet module does cut the noise back a fair bit, but it also chokes the performance down. Another option is to order a drummer and ask Kevin to make it a little quieter. He has done this for others in the past. |

I run a race can on my 07 9r. It's loud enough to turn the jap bike rider's heads, but not ridiculous to where its unbearable. I love getting to say "Mines louder!" |

i run the quiet module in mine, helps quite a bit. just make sure you use lots of loctite on the locking screw, or you'll be buying another insert. don't ask how i know this. |

Read the American Sport Bike exhaust shootout. I believe the Race can was pretty loud as well. |

Everything except the stocker pipe is loud -- a baffle would fix that but it sort of defeats the purpose of the pipe... |

the qmi for the jardine still has a nice sound to it, almost ducati like. i like it, it also cuts down on the decel popping big time. |

Badlionsfan: could you do me a favor and let me know what the diameter of the hole in the QMI is? I also found out about the locktite the hard way too, and having a lathe in my shop I don't see paying for another on when I can make it myself with a stick of aluminum stock. Brian, best i could come up with (no dial calipers or anything precise) using a tape was 1 1/4" on the center hole, 3/8" on the 12 perimeter holes. also, don't forget the groove on the outside for the seal! if you make a few extras, i'll take one off your hands for ya. |

My original didn't have the perimeter holes, I'm guessing they just lighten it up a bit, or do they go all the way through? It'll be easy to make once I get home and locate some stock to make them out of. (Message edited by diablobrian on May 27, 2008) |

I modified my quiet insert using a 3/4" X 1 1/2" galv steel pipe nipple. This really quieted the bike down without any noticeable loss in performance... And the pipe nipple only cost $1.50. I had the maintenance guys at work thread the baffle for me. |
