I ment Impatient not Inpatient, I'm not a complete dumb azz. This is how Dumb/Impatient/not paying attention to detail I am. I installed a Standard Drummer. After removing the exhaust servo cable completely off the bike I forgot to replace a zip tie that I had to cut off (of course I had to hear my new can). This zip tie held the servo cable, rubber oil line hose and two electrical wires. Well today I realized that I forgot to do this and the dam rubber oil line melted against the rear header!! Now the hose is burnt/melted, along with a decent sized crack in the middle of it all. The crack looks pretty deep. She's not leaking yet. I figure I'll have HD replace it when I bring it in for the 1,000 mile; I've got about 600 miles on her now. I hope that she doesn't start spraying hot oil all over the place. What's the chances of this hose busting on me? I've rode her pretty hard since for about 20-30 miles. I believe the hose is not pressurized. How difficult would it be to get in there and change it out the hose myself, it's pretty tight in there? Where could I get a replacement hose(Part #, 3/8 or 5/16)? Also my dumb azz did this; Round Two: I had to remove the rear brake pedal so I could access both rear clamps on the stock can to remove it. Well when I put the pedal back on I over tightened the bolt causing the rear brake to be engaged/staying engaged. I rode it like this for about 20-30 miles before I figured something was wrong. I could just shot myself; I heard the brakes sqeaking (wasn't sure which one), I noticed some power loss (a lot, thought it was due to the new can; ECM learning...), when stationary the bike wouldn't roll easy like it should. So the rear rotor got over heated, a **** load of brake dust on the rear wheel. I wonder how much brake that took off the pad Stupid **** hey!! Pisses me off man. What can you do? Have you done any stupid **** like this? (Message edited by boney95 on May 15, 2008) |

I'd suggest you man up and pay for the replacement yourself. Defrauding Buell on a warranty claim hurts everyone. Just my $.02. |

You're right Ft_bstrd and Corporatemonkey; I couldn't do that in good conscience. I reread it and it sounds terrible. I'm just really peed off at myself and was thinking of a way to offset my blunder. |

Glad to hear you rethought things. I imagine if you contact any of our BW sponsors, and make use of their Badwebber discount. The hose wouldn't cost that much. You could install it yourself, or wait until you take it in for it next service. |

The hose in only a breather for the tranny, it might cost you 5 bucks for a new one. Thanks for not being a douche... |

Adam, Thanks for your reconsideration. Nothing on our bikes costs very much to replace. I understand your frustration with yourself on doing something dumb. The good thing is that most mistakes on your bike cost little to rectify. I can't tell you how many people have over tightened their clutch cable and snapped it off. |

Sir, put the wrench down on the ground! Put it down! Now step AWAY from the wrench, slowly! Hands where we can see them! ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on May 15, 2008) |

The breather hose is an easy fix. If you don't have a shop manual, get one. As to the brakes, hopefully you didn't trash the rotor. Check everything three times when you're putting your bike back together. It's a little more important when there's only two wheels and air between you and the pavement. This ain't yer beater Cavalier. |

I have been wrenching for about 20 years. (I'm 25). I am the guy everyone comes to when their stuff won't work and they know I can fix it. I seem to have that touch even when a carbed car is flooded and the owner can't start it I sometimes seem to just be able to work it the right way to get it started. That being said I still have a notebook that I got from a girlfriend in high school, with a goldfish on the front that I write down each step of disassembly. I then follow it exactly for re-assembly. Some guys rag on me. These are the guys who finger tighten all the flywheel bolts on a race car, the phone rings, the bolts never get torqued and they shear off on a 1/4 mile shakedown run. Works for me. I always walk tools back to the bench also as I have seen way too many tools left under the hoods of cars. |

I'm wondering how you could have overtightened the rear brake pedal pivot bolt. It's shouldered. I'd say you left something out. I'm betting that rotor is trash, now. |

I'm betting that rotor is trash, now. Everything is fine now, the rear brake works just like it used to prior. It's not like the brake pads were just locked down (tight ass hell) on the rotor during the whole time. The only thing that I noticed is that the outside edge of the rotor has turned a very light brown/tan due the heat. It's not that noticeable. How could tell if a rotor was trashed? I'm wondering how you could have overtightened the rear brake pedal pivot bolt. It's shouldered. I'd say you left something out. What do you mean by "shouldered"? Nothing was left out. I just simply over tightened the bolt. (Message edited by boney95 on May 16, 2008) |

The bolt will not pinch the pedal too tight unless there is an extra washer in there. The bolt at full tight will leave a gap between the lever and the mounting surface(hence the shoulder on the bolt) so the brake lever wont stick. The discoloration on the rotor is no big deal, mine have all looked that way after a track day. |
