I really wanted more aggressive bars on my bike, since I got it.. I have a back injury and the bars on my City where causing me to slouch which would aggravates it after a long ride... I went the cross roads route in January and loved them... about a month later I started looking to go to the next level.. Thought about doing the Firebolt upper tree but I didn't want to hack up the housing I need the space for my electronics.. I really loved the clip ons when I had my daytona.. After searching and searching I stumbled across a SVR forum and found them what I needed.. LSL Off Set Match Clip Ons... I got the 54mm, They mount under the triple and are way beefy and sturdy as hell.. They go up 1" and have 5° slope.. Fire bolt trees are turned in 125° so thats what I'm going with for now..
I'm in the middle of building a spacer and still have it lock.. I'm going to have a nice one machined as soon as I can figure out the depth to clear the clip ons.. Here is Free Spirits spacer for their kit, Nope they won't sell it separate either.. I'll figure it out..
Question Does any one know the length of a fire bolts bars from the tree to the end? (Message edited by teddagreek on May 14, 2008) |

Ted - Can you be more specific as to where you want the tree end of the measurements taken? Keith |

Length, from the end of the tube to where it buts up to the tree.. I tried measuring at the dealer, but it was hard to tell where the bar actually ends with grips on and the bar end caps..

I'm so pissed of myself Right now I broke 2 bolt torquing every thing down. I just spent the last 2 hours doing surgery to remove the bolts... I'll have some pics up tomorrow... She looks pretty sad at the moment front wheel off and a dropped fork.. |

Very interested in seeing the finished product of this. ALthough I may be mistaken it looks like you don't need a new triple tree for this? which is AWESOME! I really want a more agressive feel on my bike, and those LSL clip ons look like jsut the thing. |

Well after breaking two bolts, I'm ready for another round after the babies go to sleep In the mean time I got stronger bolts, Made spacers for the housing and made a mold off the spacer for machinist to make the final spacer.. I'm thinking about having 5 made and selling them at cost for anyone who wants to do the mod. That will be about a month or so down the road.. Next post,it will be all together ..................................Hopefully
Looking Sad...

Done Almost... The only thing left is to make the old plugs for hand guards work. Turned out I took an inch off and that was about an Inch to much and had to do some massaging on my neighbors lathe In Hindsight I made a lot of extra work for my self, S##T happens.. I figure knowing everything I know now I could knock this out in a hour or so.... * 1 Pair of LSL offset match clipons. I wouldn't cut off more than 1/2" if anything at all.. * 3 2" bolts * 1 3" bolt * 4-6 Nuts for the bolts * 4 1" Copper plumbing connectors as spacers * 4 Nylon spacers drilled out to accept the bolts.. I'm pretty stoked I went for a little ride a while ago and it just falls into the corners and is planted... Not a bad Mod for under 200 Bucks.. Feels like bolt sorta the bars are shorter sweep is the same.. Going to commute this week and beat it up, if it looks good come Friday I'll put in through the ringer next weekend.. |

Nice job, any other pics to allow a better view of the space between the tree and dash? Please keep us posted after your rides. Thanks |

This is about the closet... I painted brass Spacers Black and being just an inch its hard to make out.. Still hard to make out the gap...
I really wanted to keep my Hand Guards and now the Buell end caps don't work with the 1/2"ID. I'm no machinist but I think this will work.. I milled this pipe down to the 1/2" ID of the Clip on tube , I cut in two grooves too so the Glue will have two good strong anchors...

Also take an electric engraver and etch the entire tube, this should allow the glue more surface to adhere too. |
