I want to know if anyone has put the BIG big bore job on their bike and how well it holds up in the long run. Any issues with heat? Is it something for a daily driver to have? If someone has had it on their bike give me mileage too. Thanks. |

IIRC an 88 will not fit in an xb frame. |

I think he is talking about punching a 1200cc (74ci?) out to 88ci. |

that would be correct. Case boring and very large cyl. and pistons to get to 88 cubic inches. |

i know someone did a 90 kit, but as with all those setups on the xb's computer tuning is very difficult |

I had an 88" in my 98 S1W. It had Nallin stage 3 heads with external oil drains, redshift 585 cams, 1.85 intakes and 1.615 exhaust valves, adjustable pushrods, HSR45mm mikuni, roller rockers, hydrosolid lifters, crank scraper/windage tray, Buell Race kit exhaust and all the other goodies to make it strong and reliable. It had 115 RWHP and 100 ft. lbs of torque. It was a daily driver. It started easily, idled like a stocker, never overheated and pulled like a freight train. It got 40-50 mpg. It was built by Bonneville record holder Aaron Wilson. I have since sold the bike and miss it alot. It was the best motor I ever had. |

guess i assumed incorrectly that it was for an xb since it was on the xb board? i should have looked at your profile first! |

So, can we do this to an XB? Sounds like it would be awesome. DOOM |

You can do the 90" motors in XB's without stroking the crank. (Message edited by tmc on May 15, 2008) |

From what I've heard one of the weak points in the big bore route is in the cases. When you bore the cases out to fit the larger pistons there isn't a whole lot of material left around the holes where the jugs and heads are bolted to the cases. Could affect long term reliability? Schmitty |

You are right there Schmitty that can be an issue. I've see a lot of 1250 kits make some good power. They just bolt on no boring involved |
