Ok I own an XB9S and I'm looking to lower my bar position and thought about all the hubbub I have heard about having to run brake and clutch cables through the bracket behind the bug shield. I would like to avoid all that if I could. I want a flat bar, any suggestions on which brand of bars are best and can avoid the cable nightmare? Any help would be greatly appreciated! T.I.A J.D. |

I've got a Uly. I don't know how much difference there is in cable lengths, but I was able to strap on a set of ProTaper Carmichael Bend Fat Bars.

I had Cross Roads bars on my bike and had no issue, I imagine flat bars wouldn't be an issue either.. Good Luck.. |

JD- The clutch cable is not an issue, but throttle cables can cause heartburn. My 1st handlebar swap on XB9S was to use ProTaper SEs in Carmicheal bend. I cut about an inch off each side of the new bar to get same nominal width as OE XBS bar, and throttle cables were eventually persuaded to run through the standard routing with just a bit of tension at full RH lock. My 2nd & current handlebar is a Magura SX fatbar with bend very similar to the Carmicheal (low & forward). I've left this bar full-width, quite a bit wider than OE. There was NO way that the throttle cables would run around/through the front instrument/flyscreen brackets, so I've routed the cables directly across the frame, behind the top triple clamp, where they have plenty of slack. Only problem is full LH lock, for which the cable location is a pinch problem. I just watch 'em for any wear due to pinching and have had no problems. |

They work well.. My issue is my back is more straight with them and the less I slouch the less issues for me.. I've heard they are even nicer if you cut off 1/2" to 1"... I never cut them because I decided a month ago I was going to sell them do something else When I had my triumph I had really aggressive clip ons and I never had the issues other people have on wrists and what not.. Another nice thing about the cross roads is they take a lot of vibration out of the mirrors and your hands.. (Message edited by teddagreek on May 12, 2008) |

Pro Taper Contour universal low bars (1 1/8") with Precision Engineering (Preeng.com)Buell "Slim Line" fat bar adaptor and Buell Traction grips Enough rise to clear the top of the front forks - just enough cable length to keep cable routing stock without cutting bars. (left me with 1/2" of bar exposed at ends for clamping on mirrors) Love the stocky look of the fat bar - you feel like Superman stretched out hanging on! PM me if you want big pics, D

I have the renthal ultra low bars on mine. I had no issues with routing. I know a couple other people on this board also run the renthals. Al's got them at American Sportbike, and you cant beat the price. |
